The other one on the label is better, was covered up and played at Scenesville I think, that turns up on ebay occasionally. Pretty sure that I picked this one up on ebay for a few dollars a few years back to see what it was like. Very much a played it once and onto the shelf record

Not for me either, the backing sound's familier, 60's pop. just because it's fast 60's does'nt mean it's good.

Willie

Its the Beatles rift of Back in the USSR :no::(:D

Im not keen either to be honest :D

Do we know who bought it yet?

Heard better, heard worse.... but that has to come near the low end of the price to quality ratio.

I'd dance to it as I love upbeat stuff, but wouldn't pay more than £50 for a copy and I'd think twice and see what else was on offer even then.

Well, I have been playing this since six months now and it never ever (!) cleared the floor. It even filled it (Bamberg Weekender in May this year).

Its definitely not a garage record as the b-side is a very nice midtempo group record. This record also features a very nice horn break. A "great" new 45. Each to their own, but it definitely is a very nice new record for anyone who wants to play a new black Soul 45 in his set from time to time.

I won`t tell you now who was this "top" UK DJ who paid top banana, but I can tell you that at the moment more then one DJ in the UK are behind this 45.

A truly awful record to my ears.

Over a grand paid for it? Utter lunacy.

I found one of these in the USA last month, played the flipside (which is a nice mid-tempo) and the guy refused to sell it to me.

Like you say the upbeat side is messy.

Can someone tell me the flipside title, if I ask the USA dealer he'll never sell it.

Take it still on about the Mustangs? Gotta agree John flip isn't too bad.

I guess nothing as it already tells you more then enough as most people in Germany as in and the rest of the Continent seem to have more taste and are much more open minded as the majority of people attending allnighters in England. One of the reasons people like Arthur Fenn, Dave Thorley and Butch to name just only three enjoy deejaying over here so much you joker.

Thanks Chalky, appreciate that.

What this selling for? I couldn't hear "big backs" in the music on either side.

But like Russ says possibly sounds better at a niter.

last one went for over a 1500 UKP

And in fact sounds fantastic at home as well as at an allnighter

I must be losing it, on the day it sounded far too fast and disjointed. Do you pitch it down a few RPM's when you play it out? The flip I liked but could not hear value in it, well not that much, anyway.

Still sometimes the very best records are the ones you play 5 times before it clicks in your head. I'll let'cha know when I get the copy, I'll give it a better and longer listen.

this must be selling based on dj play because I remember a few copies going through ebay cheap and then a trashed copy selling for a lot of money recently. even craig moorer's copy went for relatively cheap like a year ago and idiots who don't know anything else bid on the records he lists, bidding them way over the regular values.

yes but one went the previous night on ebay for half that price Marc, $655 I think. I know some have been sold privately too but for what I couldn't say.

I agree it sounds great at a nighter, loud, better than at home or on refosoul for example. It's filled the floor at Lifeline.

Hi Chalky, the 1500 UKP was a private sale just recently and another private sale for even more you know who you have to ask to get full details

And yes, it filled the floor, Lifeline, Germany, also in Sweden and Spain

Both parts of your post I can only answer with: yes and the secret is in the provided sound files...if a person doesn`t know the song a soundtrack will not only create his/her interest it will also help to get the bids high...seen this all before, haven `t we.

See start of this thread, the tune was "unknown" but provided with a soundfile "will this be the next big thing ?" was the question born out of the fact it was "unknwon" and the soundfile (at least to the person who started this thread) sounded good enough to ask this particular question.

There will always be people who once bought it before way cheaper as well as there will always be people who will say "this is crap, the worst 45 I have ever heard bla bla bla etc." Same was with the Parliaments "This Is My Rainy Day" first copies really cheap and later some said "Ah, can`t understand all the fuzz, ain`t really such a great tune"

Each to their own.

I for myself like it big style

Thats because it's all relatively new to you and you have no history of a Northern scene, therefore you don't need the nostalgia like we do. The best times of a lot of our lives here were in the 70's, there's nothing we can do to change that.

Posted (edited)

You''ve gotta be desperate to feel you need this in your set............f***ing dire.

Agree with the comments about tempo seeming to be more important than quality in some areas, kind of joins up with Mike's LCD post of a few days back.

that is the exact reason. although after 25 years of rare Soul in Germany the "nostalgia" thing is also starting here and there..

only 5 times...

best 45s i've found take far longer than that to click. Or to put it another way before you realise just how good they realy are.

well I'm all for hearing uptempo records at all-nighters, not the plodders and crossover no one dances to you hear at some venues come 4am and therefore sending everyone either to sleep bored or home!!! There's plenty of uptempo and dancers without having to resort to lounge music.

Known about this record and heard it, and the other side some time ago.

Thats fine, as long as your gonna dance ALL NIGHT to them. Haven't seen many around who do?! A whole night of any one tempo is too much for me! Prefer good danceable soul at any tempo. A good mix over the night.

danceable soul, hit the nail on the head Paul, I play more than a few mid-tempo numbers in my sets but they are dancers. Stompers and uptempo all night gives me a headache!!!!

I said don't wanna hear plodders and lounge music some venues resort too, many so called crossover isn't danceable. What the point of playing records you can't dance too? It's not about the people sat around the venues edges, it's all about the dancers.
