sid jones Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 yeh,got to agree not my cup of tea JUST A BAG OF RUBBISH SID
Makemvinyl Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 6ts southern soul Memphis based and ok imo but not worth 1500 dollars or whatever it cost.
Guest Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Sounded like a 60's garage tune rather than anything else. One for the mod scene rather than the northern scene i'd have thought. Wouldn't give it house room myself. Derek

I bet there is a garage tune on the flip?
pikeys dog Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 There's a Garage tune on both sides. The vocal is so bad it makes me cringe to listen to it.
Prophonics 2029 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) Sounds like Slade on acid, cum!on Noddy . Edited May 15, 2008 by Prophonics 2029
vaultofsouler Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) record at a buy it now price of $1,447.00 went on yesterday morning went off at 3pm yesterday sold to a top u.k. d.j. this will be a monster dancefloor sound in the next few months What I'm intrigued about is twofold.... Firstly.... how many people will begin "big this up" just because this "top UK DJ" starts playing it out.... and have even changed their opinion of it just because it's this DJ in question (who ).... Or secondly.... who will have the audacity to approach said DJ to suggest how "shite" this actually is .... thus promoting the old "rare don't mean quality" chestnut .... Just a thought .... p.s forgot to say it's a "platter of shite" to my ears .... Edited May 15, 2008 by vaultofsouler
homeoftheblues Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 6ts southern soul Memphis based and ok imo but not worth 1500 dollars or whatever it cost. Don't do nothing for me either !!
Guest topcatnumpty1 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I must be missing something---it may be rare and expensive but it ain,t a soul record or even a Northern soul record (if you get my drift) how can it compare with the likes of --My Proposal,Sweet Memories etc. Just my opinion Gonna watch Hull City win against Watford again!!! Tony C.
Chris Anderton Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Wonder if the "Top UK DJ" has read any of the posts on here about his new find! In my experience most "Top UK DJs" with a few very notable exceptions dont have much in the way of taste anyway and just play what the others play or what some dealer tells them they "need" to have! Chris. ps, its shite by the way.
Guest Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 ....... who will have the audacity to approach said DJ to suggest how "shite" this actually is .... thus promoting the old "rare don't mean quality" chestnut .... Oh PLEASE let it be me!!!
Ady Potts Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 To me this sounds just like early Creedence Clearwater Revival when they used to sing under The Golliwogs name, but only not as good. Sounds like a white singer ? or most likely Tex-Mex ? Sorry Steve mate, I think this Top U.K. d.j. should go back to college, or perhaps get a better adviser As they used to say on Juke Box Jury...Hit or a miss ?
Guest Trevski Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 This just proves my theory about the current trend for more uptempo stuff at venues at the moment. Fine for oldies do's but for more upfront venues there simply isn't enough quality new uptempo stuff to find. If Wigan resorted to playing cr*p to satisfy the demand for uptempo, given the ease and wealth of stuff to be found back then, what chance have you got now? I wondered how long it would be before the cr*p surfaced to fill the tempo demand, looks like it's started!
Albert Petit Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Absolutly agree....great tune for a punk 6ts garage party....but no for a cool allnighter, cannot imagine a top UK djs spinning this kind of...****. quote name='biggray1' date='May 15 08, 10:26 AM' post='769021'] Fooookin Horibubble.....

There's plenty of uptempo and dancers without having to resort to lounge music. Known about this record and heard it, and the other side some time ago.

Ceejay Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Love uptempo but really don't like this one. The vocals and music just didn't gel somehow. Sounded pretty bad quality too and in a word was just too 'messy'!!!

There's plenty of uptempo and dancers without having to resort to lounge music. Known about this record and heard it, and the other side some time ago. And me! The point I was trying to make is that there isn't enough quality uptempo tunes to sustain a full nighter, without either A/Playing the same ones all the time cos there isn't enough new stuff or B/ Resorting to sub-standard tunes because they fit the bill. Nothing against uptempo tunes whatsoever, I just think you can't deny midtempo- and quality '70's in a night either. Take T& the D's for example, hardly uptempo but a great tune! A good DJ should be able to blend the tempo's within a spot to keep all happy. I don't want an entire hour of plodders or an hour of crossover either, but nor do I want an entire night of banging uptempo. Never had it before, Wigan, Stafford etc all played a cross section of tempo's and usualy all within a DJ's one hour slot. Keeps it interesting and all the better for it IMHO. Too much of one type of tempo, I switch off completely and wander off outside! I know it's a terrible thing to say, but tunes DO tend to sound all the same if there is nothing to stand out or differentiate between. A whole spot of gritty, male vocal, uptempo, I cant tell one from t'other! It like light and shade, makes things stand out when they are contrasted or complimented by something different.

I personally think there are enough uptempo and mid to uptempo dancers to sustain a nighter (and to vary a set) without resorting to mid tempo plodders and 70's crossover no one can dance to, which as good as they may be, serve no purpose other than to satisfy the anoraks and chin strokers who have non intention of dancing and to bring everyone else down!! What I'm basically saying is the mid tempo and lounge music served up by some dj's and some venues have the same effect on the dancefloor as the so called shite uptempo/dasncers as some of you call it. All-nighters, well soul nights of any kind, are about the dancefloor and the dancers at the end of the day. The record that started this topic might be totally different at minue 2 or even 4. And to say it ain't northern well many records I hear when out I wouldn't call northern but it's all down to individual taste. Also the above record apparently filled the floor at the last Lifeline so I'm told, wasn't there to witness as I'd been busy falling of trailers at work The dancefloor rules
Bazza Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid. Nope, nor me would'nt want it taking up space Bazza
Guest Matt Male Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) A case of scarcity over quality methinks!! Rob Spot on. It's all over the place. That driving tinny back beat is really annoying, is it a guitar all the way through? Not sure it's too fast, just a bit strange and disjointed. Edited May 15, 2008 by Matt Male
Winnie :-) Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Sounds fine to dance to speedwise, think the last 10 seconds are a bit messy, but other than that, a dancer would probably like it. Winnie :-)

Agree with you trevski, however look at the tunes the LEGEND keeps turnig up...........quality or what?
Md Records Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Turned this one down fairly recently at a much, much lower price. I try and look for the positive in all records, and although this has a little "something" in places, overall it's very disjointed with little structure, I can't see many people singing this to themselves on the way home from an Allnighter. As far as it being "massive" it doesn't deserve it, there are, in my opinion, far , far better examples of this style of "Northern" waiting to get spun. Des Parker
Winnie :-) Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 you got to be joking ========== No mate, I'm a dancer and I like it
Guest gordon russell Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 ========== No mate, I'm a dancer and I like it never mean't you winnie....just mean't got to be joking about the record only
Winnie :-) Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 never mean't you winnie....just mean't got to be joking about the record only ============ No prob Tel, it's not the best record I've heard, but it's certainly not the worst
Guest Matt Male Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Glad we agree Matt.........but I'll be watching to see if you dance to it if someone plays it at the next Nuneaton It certainly won't be in my place box mate. Even if i'd just payed £1k for it...

Not sure it's too fast, just a bit strange and disjointed. playing devils advocate......there's countless established northern tracks that are messy and all over the place, strange and disjointed.....often the appeal is they aren't perfect. I wouldn't say the Mustangs is all over the place, it sounds pretty consistent to me.

Uptempo and midtempo in a set... That's what I said! Quality uptempo-fine by me! I don't want plodders either, Ok the odd one, I mean like Kae Williams for example. Pretty slow really or say George Freeman, but only when mixed in with other tempo's to give dancers a break! I can't stand the sets of 70's lounge stuff as you call it, killed the floor at the Wilton on more than one occaision Just don't think the record in question is of sufficient quality to become the 'next big thing' "Rainy Day' it aint!

I AGREE WITH THE SONG YOU'RE BOTH SINGING!!! LOVE THE TERMS 'PLODDERS' AND 'LOUNGE MUSIC' AND HAVE TO SAY THEY'RE BOTH PERFECT DESCRIPTIONS ALTHOUGH I PREFER THE TERM SHITE!!! ALSO, CAN'T AGREE MORE ABOUT THE WILTON. ONLY BEEN THE ONCE AND IT WAS WRIST SLASHING STUFF TO SAY THE LEAST AND WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. ALSO CHALKY, COULDN'T AGREE MORE WITH YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE ANORAKS. WISH I'D BEAT YOU TO IT MATE!!
Soulgrit Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid. Not for me either, the backing sound's familier, 60's pop. just because it's fast 60's does'nt mean it's good. Willie
