mischief
Can I just say... it maybe a wind up but it maybe a genuine comment.. if it is a genuine comment i'm sure with everyone taking the pee Mark will not be back... and maybe even people reading it who aren't members may think i'm not joining that.. Surley this forum is here not only for people to discuss how rare the stuff is in their own box but also for people to pop in and ask questions about records they have heard in the past.. who knows Mark might go away and buy 10 Northern CD's lend them to 10 of his mates and there we have it a growing scene.. Just what i was thinking, if he's genuine i don't think we will see him again, and i don't blame him, If a 'wind up' is suspected theres no prizes for 'guessing' as such, surely better to take the comments and questions on face value and move on? Guest rachel
Well said Mischief and Pete, I'm one of the most cynical people on earth but this member hasn't tried to cause any trouble or upset anyone. This site is one of the first that comes up on an internet search for Northern Soul so why wouldn't someone with a little bit of knowledge come on to ask some questions? We don't check people for levels of expertise when they join! If someone is on a wind-up it's usually quite obvious after a few posts.. really goes against the grain of the supposed 'lovely welcoming soul scene' if this is how you're going to treat new members If you think such questions are 'beneath' you then you don't have to answer them. Mark, if you're still here, can you please do an intro as per Ian's post above? Link to comment Social source share

Bbrich
Welcome Mark101, I was new into the scene a couple of years ago & memories of long forgotten tunes came back to me. I love the music and the opportunity to dance at events but don't understand all the terminology or can't reel off the names of every track (even the sounds I recognise). I too was hoping that the experts on this site would be prepared to educate me. If someone is going to be attacked for their ignorance then the scene won't encourage new blood and especially any younger folk ! so unless you want to end up with about 12 seventy+ year olds at each event looking at their record boxes give everyone a chance. Guest Bogue
Oh come on please let's stop getting emotional, it's a mildly amusing wind up & he was given the answers straight away without anyone having a dig or being unwelcoming anyhow. & if you are worried about scaring new blood away, whoever pointed him in the direction of 'Dean Barlow' has probably achieved that ! 'Shit man, your the man'................ I ask you ? did pmsl at that Link to comment Social source share

Pete Eccles
Sorry Rach , but for someone to ask for those particular four records then miss the ''E'' off of Marvins surname stinks of a windup . I hope I'm wrong , but ..................... MAK, Does the fact Mark missed the 'E' off the end not tell you he really doesn't know too much? And i reckon you could go into any public place (away from NS) and ask who sang those two particular songs, and you would be very hard pressed to get ANY correct answers, so why is it so suspicious that somebody would want to know a couple of titles from their youth? i would go as far to say there's plenty ON the scene (away from SS) that know the words all the way through to the Flirtations track, but would struggle to come up with the artist name, note i said plenty and not majority, The fella asked a couple of questions regarding his brief 'flirtation' (no pun intended lol) with soul music many years ago, why can't his questions just be answered and have done with it? What we take for granted as a classic is still unknown to the majority of the rest of the world, Pete Eccles Link to comment Social source share
