The LP is still fairly cheap. Plus you get all the other tracks including the magnificent 'We the people who are darker than blue'

just picked on up new sealed for £11.99, well chuffed

A sealed version for 11.99 is likely to be a re-issue. A sealed original would be around £50+.

I think the full version of Move On Up is one of the most amazing records ever made, which hasn't dated one day since it was made. The single version (while great) sounds kind of incomplete to my ears.

There is no sealed curtis album worth £50, the first solo lp is £15-£20 tops, you shiuld get a mint-minus for around that price easily.

While I agree there are any amount of used copies around at £20 I still maintain that a sealed gatefold copy of "Curtis" on US original would easily fetch fifty quid any day of the week.

by the same token i'd like to see your evidence of someone that would pay that amount for it! LOL

I agree with garethx, LP collectors pay a premium for sealed copies, esp. of a good album like that which is non common (maybe not ultra-rare, just not ultra-common either). Didn't a sealed copy of 'what's going on' sell for some ridiculous price on ebay recently?

In the "classic album" market condition is everything.

Bear in mind that there are people beyond the narrow confines of the soul scene who collect these titles as well: a quick look at popsike yields results like a sealed, non-cutout copy of the Superfly album sold for over $200.

oh come on guys, this album is not scarce at all, it sold loads of copies and it's still around. it's readily available, and just because a one off sale of a different curtis album went to some nutter doesn't mean this album sealed would go for the money mentioned here in reality. there is no evidence whatsoever of any of this theory, you're speculating, it hasn't happened, or if it has, when and where? :D

Its worth whatever the buyer will pay and I would agree that would sell for decent money if still sealed.

It was my "Wanted , One Soul Singer" album that someone paid £265 or there abouts......MAD!!......but someone out their thought it worth paying.

Move On Up is out there with the best of all time!!

So hush now child!

I would agree too - it was me who posted up re the What's Going On - $1128 - and there was more one nutter chasing it :D

I would happily pay £50 for an original sealed copy of any classic album like that to replace a worn out copy (but not $1128 ohmy.gif )

I agree. Sometimes it's suprisingly difficult to find MINT/UNPLAYED copies of albums that sold in large quantities on initial release, and after a few years searching for something you really want, I guess £50 doesn't sound so bad. (And just try finding UK first issues of classic Soul albums in reasonable condition these days!)

As for Marvin's "What's Going On", there's a whole, slightly surreal culture in the US centred around the original, first pressing MATRIX CODES on this album on Tamla, hence I suppose the huge prices you've seen quoted. (One guy even has a whole website dedicated to explaining it's labyrinthine complexities - I gave up after ten minutes reading!)

Yes, I agree with all the aforementioned posts, a sealed original of that Curtis LP would easily fetch 50 pounds .. and more.
