paultp
"Bernard Williams & the Original Blue Notes - It's Needless To Say c/w Focused On You - Harthon - £205" Is this a high or low price for this? Great tune, when I played the sound clip on JM's site I thought I'd heard it recently, maybe John Parker at YSC? Really liked it and thought about bidding but normally the ones I don't know and really like (6 out of 10) go for 4 figures. I never bothered and regret it now seeing the finishing price. Would be interested in what people's thoughts are on this. Cheers Paul Link to comment Social source share

Most would probably say worth half that really, like Ted said was a cheap record not so long ago and not that particularly rare. Sebastian
Regarding the Bernard Williams 45: Watch out for the copies with a "straight" Harthon logo though, they are second issues. The original has got a "curved" Harthon logo and ususally fetches £150-£250 on eBay. The straight logo ones goes for £25-£50. Some scans below so you can see the difference: Edited May 2, 2008 by Sebastian Link to comment Social source share

I thought it would go way over 300 quid on his auction because of that ebay auction price (normally cheaper) so never bothered to look at it again. That's cos I didn't know it and wasn't aware of rarity and/or current price. Nice tune though, both sides, will keep an eye out for it. 500 for Sam Dees though I wish I could get that, mine would be gone in a shot Link to comment Social source share

Dave Pinch
i agree. most of the records on the northern scene are way overpriced and not that rare IMVHO. as a bit of a collector/dj im currently on my 3rd copy of bernard williams and sam dees. I sold my betty lloyd for £50 when it bottomed out some years ago ive never got round to buying it back mainly coz i cant afford the £300 to buy it back and i wouldnt pay that for it anyway. if you have stacks of money you can petty much buy 95% of the records ever played on the northern scene.my own experience has told me that youd get them in a couple of months and the rarer ones would follow within a year dave Edited May 4, 2008 by dave pinch Link to comment Social source share

Not many 45s that are 'ungettable" nowadays. Just a case of how much you've got to spend. Wish I had a bit more...money that is, as well as vinyl! It can not be that rare as Soul Bowl had them on the weekly list for £8 in the early 80's. This was on the part of the list where they were on every week for about 2 months, all you had to do was phone up and one would be sent to you, from the stack. They are all tucked away in collections now! but a lot must be out there. Link to comment Social source share

Md Records
Anyone who had John Andersons list will remember the sections "Dance Sounds", "Northern" and "Northern Classics", these were items that he had QUANTITY of, and changed only slightly each week as new titles became available and old ones eventually sold out. Just digging out one list (Number 454) reveals the following, in quantity. - Exportations - Vir ro - Nightchill - Tra Sound - Ed Summers - Soya - Carol Anderson - Fee - Z.Z. & Company - Columbus - Constellations - Gemini Star (I Don't Know About You) - Differences - Mon Ca - Mathew Barnett - Puff - Kris Peterson - Top Dog - Tears - Smash - John Bowie - Merben ALL AT BELOW £5 EACH!! Now this is just a selection from just one random list that was to hand, but I get irritated when someone shows me something like "Mathew Barnett" and says "Yeah, one of only about 4 known copies", If a lot of collectors start shuffling off this mortal coil, watch the records come out of the woodwork!!
