Following on from the rare UK albums thread. In my early days there were albums around that contained big northern sounds of the day. I don't mean albums released because of the scene, I mean stuff Like the RCA albums, "A Little bit Of Soul" containing The Exciters & Willie Kendrick. Or "Funky Bottom Congregation" with Herb Ward. It was a way of getting the top sounds without breaking the bank. Also in those days it was acceptable to play them out because they were still "Original".

What others are there.?

Someone mentioned a Columbia Okeh one. What were the tracks?

President put put the 3 "Keep the Faith" LPs, on Joy, in therearly 70s, with loads of stuff from One-der-ful/Mar-v-lus/M-Pac, and Mirwood.

UK Minit did a couple in the late 60s which included "Look at me, look at me" (Vernon Greene) and tracks by the Themes and the Players, which had never had releases on singles in the UK.

I'd like to see the track listing of "Chartbusters UK", I've not seen a copy for about 30 years. I think it included Artistics "This heart of mine" and Walter Jackson "Where have all the flowers gone", which were first played in 60s clubs from this album. Plus, I think, Ted Taylor "Rambling rose" - anyone remember dancing to this?

Cheers

Nick

During the 60s when USA 45s were scarce in the UK the compilations LPs were the source of many discoveries.

If you follow this link. It lists 100s of UK compuilation LPs. If you pick out the 60s ones, you'll see what I mean.

click "more info" to reveal full track listings, date and country.

Some track listings are truly amazing, as to what was available in the 60s before the USA 45 was found.

link: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/searchartist....rmat=%&pg=2

there are 680 of them so best to look for 60s UK labels. we have listed track listings on all LP & EP listing over the last 4 years, any without track listings means it was added before 2004.

I've got a "Soul Sounds Of The 60's" LP on HMV, Has Dust My broom, You've Been Cheatin and a few others on. I'll post a piccy when I can find my digital camera.

I've never been a one for LP's apart from the likes of Hestitations - Kapp, Tempests - Smash, Metros - RCA, Darrell Banks - Atco, Baby Washington - Veep, Reflections - Golden World, Artistics - Brunswick/Okeh etc. etc. which are all American releases but the few albums I have kept include these which may fall into this very interesting thread, not sure if you mean albums released in the 60's? or albums containing 60's recordings issued later? Paul P beat you to it mate with the HMV 'Soul Sounds Of The 60's' picture....lol
