Often wondered if any were produced during the Label Design change over.
Guest Matt Male Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I agree fantastic oldie, great lyrics. What about the British issue? What does the first one of those look like?

Often wondered if any were produced during the Label Design change over. yeh i used to roger there was one of those amazing tales of a judy freeman black issue, also we looked for a pied piper label for a while due to another myth, nice thought though, a nice michael & raymond on pied piper

The Contempo issue is a re-recording. Therefore, the "A Little Bit Of Soul" album remains the UK original, along with Willie Kendrick. Paul

Guest Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 played this in bournemouth at the railway club and it emptied the floor. sold it recently to a SS bod for £25 and now every bugger is bigging it up
Philippe Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ps who was the writers on that one roger? Banks-Rooney. They wrote all the songs of the LP but one, written by Kelly-Banks.
Guest ScooterNik Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Is it just me that would have thought of it as not being hugely quick? To me 'quick' is "I'll Be There"
Jordirip Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Banks-Rooney. They wrote all the songs of the LP but one, written by Kelly-Banks. I think there's a good crossover track on the LP as well but I can't remember the track. I remember buying the UK Contempo version of "Blowing up..." and the disappointment when I heard it was unbelievable. Absolute pile of... compared to the USA RCA version, and there was no indication that it was gonna be different from the far superior USA version. Jordi
arnie j Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Is it just me that would have thought of it as not being hugely quick? To me 'quick' is "I'll Be There" very good point mate, this isnt quick or fast at all
45cellar Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 (edited) Banks-Rooney. They wrote all the songs of the LP but one, written by Kelly-Banks. Yes, mainly Banks-Rooney, apart from the one track. "Movin' Too Slow" is a good track too. Edited April 26, 2008 by 45cellar
Ady Croasdell Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 The flip was an R&B hit so it's not that rare a 45, though utterly brilliant.
45cellar Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Hey Roger! Great scans again mate. Peter Thanks Peter, I have been practicing with a couple of freeware programs that I found. Starting to use the technique for record scans in "The Sharp End Of Vinyl". I will try to keep it pleasing to the eye, and not become psychedelic, or anything like that.
Prophonics 2029 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Think this must be one of the first Northern LP's I bought, forgot how good it was. I have some of these on CD now, funny but I even forgot I first heard them back then in 78.

Ignore me. For some reason i thought i had a British RCA issue, but i just dug it out and it is US. Plus i always thought it was a second issue, but turns out it's a first issue, so even better.

Pauldonnelly Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I had the little bit of soul album in 1973...I was always under the impression that the exciters and Willie Kendricks were both played off the album first and although my memory is shot I'm sure late days Torch...

Guest Sean Haydon Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Yes, mainly Banks-Rooney, apart from the one track. "Movin' Too Slow" is a good track too. Movin' Too Slow was played by Wigan Paul at 'In The Groove' in Southport a couple of weeks ago, it sounded great. Never heard it before but had the same backing track as another old tune but I couldn't put my finger on it. Can anyone post it as a sound clip? Sean.
Guest Nik Mak Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Many thanks Roger, I'm very impressed. You're right it is a good tune. You've just solved something that's been buggin me for three weeks (since I heard it first). I thought it had the same backing as something else, but it hasn't. It just reminds me of Reggie Garner- Hot Line. Cheers mate, Sean PLAYED 'Blowin up my mind' last night @ We Got Soul Baby! Here in Bournemouth. Packed the floor & a round of applause! Still some life in the old dog yet!

Time to get those tunes off the shelves me thinks. I'm sure you'll agree Paul. Back of the box stuff and underplayed oldies seems to be the essence at the moment. And about time too! Along with the new up tempo raraties we're hearing, the likes of Burnley, Lifeline and Lowton DDA, the scene has become exciting again! All the best mate, Sean.
