Not sure about a Canadian postal order! But have you tried contacting who ever sent it to you,to see if they can advise you where to get your cash?

CANADA

Sorry Richard ,could'nt resist biggrin.gif

Seriously though i would'nt have thought you could cash it over here, same as you couldnt send a UK postal order to anywhere outside UK .

I think they are only valid in country of origin

Might be wise to get in touch with buyer and ask him to send 10 UK pounds in a envelope.

Failing that put it down to experience

This postal money order has UK £10 in the line above the currency and amount line, so in theory it should be cashable somewhere in the UK. This makes it a bit different to the UK postal order as you say.

Also on the back are some instructions to acceptor. DO NOT CASH if the amount exceeds $999.99 Canadian, or US or £100 UK. So just that mention of £100 UK must make it valid. But where to cash it? RD

The bank have no right to refuse this Richard, it should be paid in as normal if it's made out in stirling, probably the members of staff had never seen one before

I took myself off to Barclays in town and there was told they couldnt accept it. The reason has something to do with the numbers at the bottom being incompatible with something in the clearing process and that in the past they come back. The teller said i should try the main post office where i could fill in some form to get it cashed. So went there without much hope but amazingly got it cashed. The teller there was actually useless but on talking to a senior person the two of them were joined by a third person all looking at the computer system or whatever they use now and after lots of trial and error from what i could see they found the correct thing and after i produced my ID the girl stamped the order and i was out.

So it would seem that canadian postal money orders can be cashed ok at a main post office. As for the smaller branch of the post office saying they couldnt cash them, well i reckon they were too lazy to do the job.

Still, i suppose this is useful info for anyone selling to a canadian and without paypal or other transfer which i still refuse to do.

Cheers folks
