All I know is Wendall Watts £1759 what a tune not to sure its worth that money though, although saying that there's a lot more readily available tunes that fetch alot more that.

Think Sam was going for it. It's pretty rare but I cannot recall what it sounds like, as I don't have it myself.

Who's paying these prices for the Tempests LP?

Lunacy.

I paid £50.00 for it in the late 80's and it stayed at that price for years! - I always wondered why. So going by todays mad prices, it's probably ok. At least it is a great soul LP, not as mad as some records that have been bought in the past. Going by sound alone - Well worth the money.

Len.

THIS POST HAS BEEN, CHECKED, DOUBLE CHECKED AND TREBLE CHECKED...IF YOU ARE IN ANY WAY OFFENDED BY IT...F*CK OFF! NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU!!! (WITHOUT PREJUDICE)

Who in their right mind would pay 450 quid for a Major Lance record?

Remember Guy Hennigan used to play this Wendell Watts in the late 80's early 90's.

When Ebay first got going it was the kind of obscure record I thought I might find, but never did!! Great record!

Sam's just been round to our house and I took the opportunity to ask him whether he'd bid on this - he had, but didn't get it.

I think it's worth the money, hardly ever seen for sale, last one was on e-bay and went for close to four figures if memory serves me right. Cracking record too.

Yes Chalky i'm starting to agree with you I knew it was rare but not as rare as that. I was willing to pay £950 and bid up to that, I thought I stood a good chance but got blown away by 3 other bidders. Seems I'm gonna be waiting a long time to add this to the collection although what sometimes happens when a record goes like this others come out to take advantage of the current demand hopfully theres a few out there.

Never heard this. Fantastic record! Difficult to believe it's that rare 'cos Ref-O-Ree releases seemed to be quite well distributed at the time but I've never seen it - I would have snagged it if I had 'cos I love Wendell Watts. I also loved "Grooviest Thing This Side Of Heaven" by him - another brilliant mid-tempo track IMO.........

Ian,

Just to validate the rarity of the Wendell Watts, this is the one and only copy I've ever had for sale, the four collectors scrapping for it at the end, knew exactly how seriously rare it is. I wish I could have have added it to my collection, love the record. I think the winner got himself a real jewel!

Bloody hell. You never kept it! I'm pretty impressed - that must have been a difficult decision......

Here lies an interesting thread John. What are the records you've sold which you really wouldn't have minded keeping for yourself?

And, furthermore, can a major dealer also be a full-time collector or is there an inherent clash of philosophy there, i.e., what do you sell, what do you keep etc, etc....

Wendell Watts - Kiss A Good Thing Goodbye................Superb record, loved it when Guy played it & loved it ever since, this is the first ever copy I have seen for sale in that time & IMO money well spent, If I had the funds I would have gone big on this myself, real traditional sounding four to the floor NORTHERN SOUL..........

Precious Three........superb record also...........MEMORIES OF THE DOME !!!!!.
