Tabs Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Who's paying these prices for the Tempests LP? Lunacy. Agreed but still cheaper than the last one auctioned. That went for over £400.

Think Sam was going for it. It's pretty rare but I cannot recall what it sounds like, as I don't have it myself.
Glynthornhill Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 8) Timi Yuro- "It'll Never Be Over For Me" Liberty (E+) 809p 16) The "three before 8:00 " demos (E+ to mint) 563p Now I know the collecting world has gone MAD. Good luck to JM , but who in their right mind is paying these prices. Its jaw dropping figures.
Guest in town Mikey Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Fave tune on that list is Gracie Dumas. Reasonable finishing price for the buyer too.

Here's a link to the auction finish with soundfile: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/newli...tionItemID=3154 Not heard it before, thought it was the stand out tune of this set of auctions, had no idea it was worth so much though

Pete S Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Agreed but still cheaper than the last one auctioned. That went for over £400. BIZARRE, WHEN YOU THINK I LISTED ONE AT SET SALE FOR £60 LAST YEAR AND IT DIDN'T SELL!
Len Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Who's paying these prices for the Tempests LP? Lunacy. I paid £50.00 for it in the late 80's and it stayed at that price for years! - I always wondered why. So going by todays mad prices, it's probably ok. At least it is a great soul LP, not as mad as some records that have been bought in the past. Going by sound alone - Well worth the money. Len. THIS POST HAS BEEN, CHECKED, DOUBLE CHECKED AND TREBLE CHECKED...IF YOU ARE IN ANY WAY OFFENDED BY IT...F*CK OFF! NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU!!! (WITHOUT PREJUDICE)

Remember Guy Hennigan used to play this Wendell Watts in the late 80's early 90's. When Ebay first got going it was the kind of obscure record I thought I might find, but never did!! Great record!
Reforee Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 The Wendall Watts is prehaps the rarest on the label along with The Precious 3, most of the stock was skipped when Ted Jarrett moved house in the 80s. THE MAN IN BLACK

Cracking record too. Yes Chalky i'm starting to agree with you I knew it was rare but not as rare as that. I was willing to pay £950 and bid up to that, I thought I stood a good chance but got blown away by 3 other bidders. Seems I'm gonna be waiting a long time to add this to the collection although what sometimes happens when a record goes like this others come out to take advantage of the current demand hopfully theres a few out there.

Difficult to believe it's that rare 'cos Ref-O-Ree releases seemed to be quite well distributed at the time but I've never seen it - I would have snagged it if I had 'cos I love Wendell Watts. I also loved "Grooviest Thing This Side Of Heaven" by him - another brilliant mid-tempo track IMO......... Ian D

Ian D Ian, Just to validate the rarity of the Wendell Watts, this is the one and only copy I've ever had for sale, the four collectors scrapping for it at the end, knew exactly how seriously rare it is. I wish I could have have added it to my collection, love the record. I think the winner got himself a real jewel! John

I'm pretty impressed - that must have been a difficult decision...... Here lies an interesting thread John. What are the records you've sold which you really wouldn't have minded keeping for yourself? And, furthermore, can a major dealer also be a full-time collector or is there an inherent clash of philosophy there, i.e., what do you sell, what do you keep etc, etc.... Ian D
