mikeysoul Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 My recent purchases veer towards R&B 2 yesterday at the local record fair Chyvonne Scott - I'm moving on (Alto) My kinda R&B. 4 or so people came up to the stand whilst playing to see what it was. Unfortunately not cheap though needed something to get me through the snow & cold on my (push)bike ride home Benny Latimore - I'll be good to you (Dade) Nice crossover. Others through the door Vernon Green & the Medallions - A lover's prayer (Dootone) After hearing on the recent New Breed (Kent) CD, cheers Ady Lena Calhoun - First love baby (Flip) Ditto & Billy Larkin - That's a lie (Vistone) Seventh Son take off. Lastly at my local record emporium, some UK bits Ben E King - The beginning of time (Atlantic) Not the usual type of sound I go for but found quite endearing Fats Domino - I done got over it (Mercury)
Ficklefingers Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Two more wonderful additions to the LP collection - acquired over the weekend : Hayes Cotton Awesome 'modern' retakes of his 60's greats. The 'Black Wings..' being particularly tasty - Carl & Maria Willingham gave it an outing at Middleton on Saturday.. as I will next weekend on, at least, one of my two DJ bookings !! Various Artists (Carrie) 'THE' L.P. !! All Unreleased gems! from the likes of Clifford Binns; Edward Hamilton; (both with, and without) The Arabians; plus Cornell Blakely !! Both pieces are certainly, at the very least, 'ELUSIVE'.. and both extremely worthy, within their respective track content, of delivering 'Fresh', 'Class' tunes for any venues playlist. The type easily deserving to grace the nations turntables. With everything required to delight both the dancers and listeners.. and to fill the dance floors across the country !! Fingers..
Nick Soule Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Fabulous Downbeats- Life Goes On (Poison Ring) Betty Everett- Bye, Bye Baby (ABC) De Vons- Someone To Treat Me (King, yellow promo) Showmen- Our Love Will Grow (Swan promo) DuShons- You Better Think It Over (Down To Earth) Little Flint- Pain (Beast) Toni Lamarr- I'd Do Anything (Buddah) Lou Rawls- Dead End Street (Live Version) (MGM), way cooler intro
paultp Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Strange thing this records doo-dah, I keep looking at my records and thinking "What am I keeping these for? Why don't I just sell up?" Then I buy some more Does anyone understand? Anyway the last few things that I've bought to keep are: Bobby Bland - Lover With A reputation - Duke Got a few of his Duke outings but hadn't heard this - lovely Diplomats - Honest To Goodness - Minit Been waiting for a cheap copy to come my way and eventually it did Johnny De'Vigne - I Smell Trouble - De-lite Been after a copy since Ady Lupton played it down These Old Shoes back in 2000 or so and put it on the Anniversary CD - 25 quid off eBay Nat Wright - Run, Sonny, Run - Petal Bloody mad tune! 1 min 47 of lunacy, Alan H played it at my birthday bash last year and had a look for it after the popcorn thread came up the other week - only VG but 7 quid including postage off a japanese soul site I can guarantee this would stop the floor at most venues, crossover it ain't, puts the hairs on the back of your neck up Baby Washington - I've Got A Feeling - Sue W/D A Jo Wallace tip King Coleman - Down In The Basement/Crazy Feeling - Togo I think I'm turning into a mod! Prince Buster - Gun The Man Down - Prince Buster Maytals - Dog War - Prince Buster No, I'm turning into a skinhead! As you can see, I've given up chasing tunes as the prices have gone somewhat ridiculous, I know "big tunes" are generally expensive but my attitude these days is that if I had 1500 quid loose I'd buy a new dinghy to sail or b*gger off to Canada skiing, I certainly wouldn't buy a copy of Joe Jama Cheap but interesting for me now. As the lady said when I turned round and found her rifling through my Dj box whilst I was doing a set at These Old Shoes: "They're only records!"

Pete S Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) You know what it's like when you've got no money and the very, very last thing you sell is your favourite record? It's a horrible feeling. And it happened to me twice with the same record, f*cking gutted both times, though I got 300 and 200 for it respectively...anyway I swore if I ever got the opportunity to buy it again, I would, and I would NEVER sell it again. Well I got it on sunday and it arrived today. Only Good Plus and still over 100 quid but honestly, this is the greatest ska instrumental ever recorded and if anyone tells you different they are either a liar or they are Tony Rounce. Take it away boys... https://media.putfile.com/PRINCE-BUSTER-ALL-STARS-JET-707 Edited April 9, 2008 by Pete S
