Pete S Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 ---- Paid £25 for mine about 6 years ago - never regretted it ... did you know Len Barry did You baby on Decca ??? The Len Barry version is fantastic, it came out on the B side of a 123 reissue on MCA in about 72 and was a 2 week wonder at Wigan in early 77. Brilliant.

Mach Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Did John Holt Or Ken Booth release it as well ! seems to be in my head but instaed of Jackie the one rolling around my barnet is a reggae version yes john holt did the reggae take in the 70s on trojan a really catchy effort, i have both , but prefer jackie trent, though they both hold fond memories for there own reasons.
Guest Dale Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) HAS ANYONE HEARD THE BEV HARREL VERSION ON THE AUSTRALIAN HMV .MISSED OUT LAST YEAR ON THE JACKIE TRENT BUT CAME ACROSS THIS WHILE AT THE AUSSIE WEEKENDER LAST YEAR CERTAINLY A VG VERSION IMO Edited April 5, 2008 by Dale
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Yes, Bev's version is v.v. fab - but let's not forget that (although it's not really a record you can dance to) the Ronettes' sublime rendition is the best one of all... ...I do love Jackie Trent as well, of course. And lots of her other records, too, she's a wonderful singer...
Cover-up Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Yes, Bev's version is v.v. fab - but let's not forget that (although it's not really a record you can dance to) the Ronettes' sublime rendition is the best one of all Is The Ronnettes not a totally different song? It's a Phil Spector original - Jackie Trent is a cover of The Turtles, at least The Turtles was the pop version I heard first... ?

It's a Phil Spector original - Jackie Trent is a cover of The Turtles, at least The Turtles was the pop version I heard first... ? Jackie Trent is definitely a cover of the Ronnettes - The Turtles song is a totally different song altogether, same title, different record Edited April 8, 2008 by Pete S
Cover-up Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Jackie Trent is definitely a cover of the Ronnettes - The Turtles song is a totally different song altogether, same title, different record Err, I should know that - I've got both of them...! They both start off with pretty good drum breaks... not that that's any excuse!!!
