I've just won a record on Ebay for $50.00 and from the off here I of course will honour the auction but has anyone come across that Ebay insist on all records over the value of $25.00 have to be tracked/insured? is it an option, rule or guideline? as the postage is almost as much as the said record, I really don't understand this as I've also won a couple of other records from the States via Ebay recently and paid $6.00/$8.00 max for the postage, also I thought it was against the rules of Ebay to request a further 4.40% of the selling price to cover Pay Pal fee's, I'm a little miffed about all this and was wondering if anyone else has been presented with this little problem recently?

What to do?

Regards - Mark Bicknell.

New one on me that?

Does the seller state this in the advert?

The seller must have been duped in the past - and is trying to cover himself against fraudulent claims

I haven't had any with as low a finishing price as that - its usually around the $100 mark

Also it shouldn't cost that much more for the itme to get a tracking number

As for adding paypal charges - thats not allowed and you don;t need to pay this 4%. If he tried to add it on the invoice, jusr knock it off again and say its against ebay rules, and surely with such high postage charges the 4% is included in that...

Good luck Mark - there are some right shiesters out there!

Thanks Kirsty, I knew the 4.40% Pay Pal add on is against Ebay policy and rules etc. real dilema this as I feel like telling the bloke to stick the record to be honest but then you get into the relms of negative feedback and all that, there was no postal rates on the listing only the mention of this tracking business, what has thrown me on this is the fact that no other recent transactions or sellers have got this in place and I thought if it was the case that all sellers would have to apply this to their listings if it was a genuine rule from Ebay?

There was a mention of the tracking and perhaps I should have checked with the seller first before bidding, oh well it's still a bargain but not such a good one....lol

He could send it by registered airmail for $12 Mark. I think he is talking about priority airmail which costs more.

When I get foreign bidders and the price is over £20, I make them pay £6 for signed for airmail, after I got done for a couple of hundred quid by paypal thieves.

IF YOU PAY BY PAYPAL AND THE SELLER HASN'T SENT THE ITEM BY SOME SORT OF TRACKED DELIVERY...AND YOU DON'T RECEIVE IT YOU CAN CLAIM THE FULL COST BACK..INCLUDING POSTAGE THROUGH PAYPAL...PROBLEM IS...IF YOU DO RECEIVE IT AND JUST SAY YOU HAVEN'T...YOU CAN STILL CLAIM ALL YOUR MONEY BACK...THE SELLER DOSENT HAVE ANY COMEBACK. GREAT FOR CON ARTISTS. !!!

Thanks guys for all your comments and help on this one, a case perhaps for me to suck it and see, my fault but perhaps a bit of a warning for everyone to look out for when bidding for records, still not happy but I have no choice but to pay the guy I guess.

You can always mention it in the feedback you leave Mark!

Cheers Steve, I've already thought about that but as you know feedback only works well when all is well otherwise it simply ends up tit of tat and I'm not into that, like I say a hard pill to swallow when you think someone is taking the piss but never mind we live and learn I guess.

Sounds like the same seller as I got conned with a while ago. He has obviously been duped by some low life in the past, and decided to take it out on the rest of us. I won a record that I'd been after for years, so he knew that I wasn't gonna tell him to shove it. 4.4% on a very expensive 45, and then I think he wanted $30 for the tracking postage. He knows that it's against the rules to ask for the paypal charges. That's why he doesn't put it in the listing. He waits until you've won the item, and then hits you with the hard luck story.

Like Mark said, once you give negitive feedback, you just get it back. Doesn't matter that you have done nothing wrong......Stinks.....

Fat lot of good the cost of tracking is,I paid $30.00 for it to get my Steve Mancha..."did my baby call",I tracked that to L.A.airport where it then vanished into thin air,at least I got my money back off USPS after 4 months. Then my September Jones has just done a runner from Canada, that one did'nt have tracking (paid by paypal so i will give em some grief)as I thought what can go wrong with postage from canada!!.I think I may as well open the front door and wang fivers up and down the street ,it may be cheaper.
