Guest marge Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 'It's all up to you' is one of my all time fav's. Just stunning!!!!!!!!!!! That's a real crossover track I reckon, crossover in the sense that I can put that on a CD for my 'non soul mates' and they all love it, and yet still captures something when they ask 'what is northern soul' - the breaks, the crescendoes, the harmonies, the way the track builds and uplifts, so if that what Imber means by 'anthemic' soul, this is one of them

Sunnysoul Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 (edited) Don't Want Nobody : The Dells Fabulous uptempo 45 release off the Dells' LP on Private Eye records from 1984. Was quite popular as a modern track at Stafford mid 80's, if my memory serves me right ... And to double up on the soul power , the flipside of the Don't Want Nobody 45 is a brilliant deep tune called You Just Can't Walk Away ! Edited April 6, 2008 by sunnysoul

Guest mel brat Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 (edited) All About The Paper from: I Touched A Dream Album 1980 Vividly remember Colin Curtis playing "All About The Paper" at Cassanelli's, alongside the re-recording of "Be Thankful For What You Got" by William DeVaughn on TEC, (mainly because I rushed over to the decks to find out what they were!). "Your Song" was also played on the "Funk" scene as new if I recall correctly. Both later came out on UK 12". Franky, I'm astonished that "Your Song" is so expensive nowadays - it can't be due to "rarity"! Of the two, I prefer "Don't Want Nobody" as I find the melody to "Your Song" to be a bit irritating. (Sorry!) Edited April 6, 2008 by mel brat

Northernsoul Anthems can get a little tiresome some times, "Your Song" is one of those geniuses tracks that just makes me feel happy and dance like a nutter!!! I was up in the Alps (Avoriaz) about 10 or 15 years ago, in a 'civilian' night club, and they played a French language version of this. I remember thinking this sounds great, not recognising it till the chorus. Worth looking up.
