Citizen P Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 Here's one from me ... Always loved that strange accordian sounding break. Tony
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) Always loved that strange accordian sounding break. Tony I think it's a melodica.....like the Greek national instrument and the thing that Augustus Pablo plays... but a whole night of Mike Terry would be genius - let me know when you're doing it - he's my heart throb Jo Edited March 28, 2008 by vinylvixen
TheBigO Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) Now this is a VERY deep well to drink from, the man (alongside Silky Hargreaves if memory serves right) played of 100s of records (didn't they let Silky just stand in and allowed the credit to go to Mike?) but a few that tickle my aging old feet still are (and all non-Motown): Marge Little - love Finds a way Girls are out to get you -The Fascinations What can I do- Lorraine Chandler I can take care of myself - Gene Chandler Put a dime on D9 - Rotations I cant hide it - Appreciations Make a change - Johnny Rogers Thats what you do to me - Deon Jackson to name but a few that his sax (or Silky's?) has graced. Theres a great article in Theres That Beat mag which would give you a whole heap of toons to pull from. Edited March 28, 2008 by TheBigO

45cellar Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 (edited) Seconded. Unbelievably brilliant record which is difficult to better IMO. Was he involved with "Get It Baby"? Ian D I have just posted a response on an Edwin Starr thread, regarding the Title of the Greatest. I suppose that it should be broken down into The Greatest in THEIR Field. "Mike Terry" Another name that gives the stamp of Quality before you even offer the needle to the wax. Edited March 30, 2008 by 45cellar
Wilxy Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Mike Terry.....sheer class, so anything with his name to it gets my plaudits
Epic Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Lorraine Chandler - "What Can I Do" - The way that the sax just bubbles along subtley in the background is pure bliss. A record that whenever I hear it I am reminded why I got into soul music in the first place - absolutely wonderful!!
jazzyjas Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Nice to see Mike Terry getting mentions on the site. I'm going to be talking to him on the phone this coming week and will let him know about this thread. He does get on the net from time to time. If anybody has some questions, just fire away and I'll be sure and pass them along. Mike has stayed in touch with me quite a bit since I interviewed him for TTB! #4. He calls and checks in every so often and keeps me updated on his work. But while you're at it, don't forget the MOTOWN! MT has related to me that he is particularly proud of his solos like "Where Did Our Love Go". And on the NS side, he's also really proud the Esquires 45 he did on Wand. Will keep you posted and make Mike aware of the appreciation that Soul Sourcers are showing him. THANKS EVERYBODY! -Jason

jazzyjas Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 The really sad thing is that Mike told me he discarded all sorts of stuff way back when. Not only records, but master tapes, unreleased things, memorabilia, photos, etc. This was so long ago and a lot of it was disposable to him at the time. He regrets it trmendously now. As for "Bari Track" and other songs, he often would go in, do the job and have no idea of where the finished product would end up and who would sing on it in the end, in some cases. It just indicates the sheer volume of work he was doing at the time. His schedule was constantly full of sessions and he just worked so hard that he didn't always got to sit back and hear the finished product. It wasn't until soul fans put all their heads together that he could start to assess his body of work. You can't help but wonder what kinds of things got lost in the shuffle though. -Jason
