Kevinkent Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hi Chris, My plan over the next couple of years is to get something going on the Spanish Costas when I move there. Your mate might be struggling at the moment though. Try www.orihuelascooterclub.com which is an expats club near Torrevieja, a bit of a ride south from Benidorm. I was let down by them when I went over with my vinyl for their 1st Northern nite a couple of years ago. Seems they've gone native and adopted the "manyana" approach - ie cancelled without telling me. Don't know how serious they are about their Northern but worth a try. Check their site - there is a link on it to Denia Scooter Club. Denia is much closer to Benidorm and they might have something. You could also try Albert Petit or Dani on here. They are doing the Valencia niter in April and are bound to be aware of anything happening. Good Luck - I'd be interested to hear if your mate finds anything in Spain. Kevin Kent

Kevin Kent last christmas we tried to get directions to one of their soul nights but to no avail, it was as if they didnt care if anyone turned up, I wouldnt mind but we were only a couple of miles from the venue, could have walked it, but could we find it!

Kevin Kent Hi Kev, The Indalo Soul Club of Spain is on every month in Mojaca. No scooter involvement, as far as I know we are the only rare soul club on the Costas.) ie. we play 45s (and lots of good uns too). There are a number of Northern/Motown nights on the Costas but none of them bear any lance to what you would recognise as "a scene". Most are commercial DJs 'tagging' their nights. The Valencia Soul Club weekend is 12/13 April and looks to be shaping up as a blinder. Can't wait. The Hitsville Rare Soul Weekender IV (Espana) is provisionally booked for the second weekend in September. More details later this Spring as I firm things up. If you're moving to the Murcia Region Kev, get in touch as I have a few things in the pipeline and may be able to assist you if you're planning a venture. Rare Soul is on the move in Spain. Looking forward to it all.
macca Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 "They gone native with the ma±ana approach - i.e. they cancelled without telling me." I've lived here for 17 years and have NEVER encountered such a problem, on the contrary. Think it's more to do with them being a rude bunch of c***s than a reflexion on the 'natives'. I find it galling to read stuff like this on what is essentially an international forum Or have I got out the wrong side of the bed this morning? If I'm wrong, I'll apologise unreservedly. M

M Hi Macca, No offence meant to anyone. I was perhaps being a bit to kind to the expats SC. I'm sure you're aware that "manyana, manyana" is a term or description used by many in reference to getting things done in Spain. I have experienced it myself, but what I once found frustrating I now see as an integral component of a more relaxed lifestyle. My move to Spain, when it happens, will not be accompanied by the wearing of Union Jack shorts or a total ignorance of the Spanish culture or language. I intend to integrate. So, I apologise if anything in my post was thought of as derogatory by any of our Spanish friends. As someone else has had problems with this Scooter Club it seems your description is the one to use. -Kevin
