Northern Soul Uk Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi fellahs, just got this on EBay for £11, took a chance really but it's a top tune anyway. Any notions on weather it's an original promo or not? Thanks in anticipation. Steve
Benji Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 looks like a typical west coast parkway demo to me.
Rupert Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 looks like a typical west coast parkway demo to me. it should have matrix stamp & delta number in dead wax if none of those then its a boot
Spacehopper Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 manships bootleg book says it has to be styrene with stick on label...if its vinyl with moulded label its a boot....
Garrison Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 the original should be styrene with a stick on label, bootleg i think is vynal with a moulded over label.
Benji Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 pretty obvious from the picture, its styrene with stick on label so it's an original, isn't it? but wasn't aware this was booted, when and why?
Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Wasn't aware this was booted, when and why? Beat me to it Benji, a new one on me!
Guest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 i think you will find it has been booted. i've had this copy for about 20/25 years. no matrix stamp. scratched in p924br
Benji Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 just to make it sure (or shall we move this thread to "sharp end of vinyl"?): the boot is a copy of the west coast white demo? i.e. all multi-coloured issues or east coast demos are genuine?
Pete S Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 It was booted in 1977 to cash in on it's revival at the Wigan friday oldies all nighters
Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 It was booted in 1977 to cash in on it's revival at the Wigan friday oldies all nighters Blimey! Never knew that Pete...you live and learn (smug glance at my multicoloured deffo original issue... )
Pete S Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Blimey! Never knew that Pete...you live and learn (smug glance at my multicoloured deffo original issue... ) I shouldn't be able to remember such trivia though Jerry, frightening really when I can't remember my own mobile phone number
Wrongcrowd Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi fellahs, just got this on EBay for £11, took a chance really but it's a top tune anyway. Any notions on weather it's an original promo or not? Thanks in anticipation. Steve I'm afraid you've got yourself a bootleg there.
Wiganer1 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I'm afraid you've got yourself a bootleg there. === yes a boot as i thought as well...got a lovely issue years ago...11 quid aint too over the top i suppose...
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I have a nice white demo and got an issue to go with it but plays a different song and I don't know the title of??.
Anoraks Corner Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 got an issue to go with it but plays a different song and I don't know the title of??. It is called, 'I won't cry' and is on some mis-pressed East Coast stock copies...and also on a UK album released in the 70s, wihch concentrates on their Parkway recordings. As with previous comments, the typeface on that bootleg in the pic from the OP gives it away without even having to look at the vinyl/styrene. Such a classic slab of clip-clop N.Soul that I personally never tire of hearing. Here's an original East Coast (Audio Matrix stamped) WD for reference:
Platters 81 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 interesting one this......my DJ is like Daves..924..the flip ...marvellous vocal group version of "the twelfth of never"...is number 933....

Guest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 interesting one this......my DJ is like Daves..924..the flip ...marvellous vocal group version of "the twelfth of never"...is number 933.... It came out twice on Parkway both considered original. First 924 "Malibu" with "Here She Comes" on the flip then 933 "Twelth Of Never" with "Here She Comes" on the flip. Argee with others that the copy pictured is a 70's boot, I remember when they were done. Original should not cost you much, so its not to bad!
Northern Soul Uk Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) Thank you all for your comments, I will let you all know what it's like when i receive it. You're all superstars. Just to let you know that the 'B' side is 'malibu', is it a boot then? See you at Drax tomorrow night if you can make it. Edited March 27, 2008 by steveluigi
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) Here is another. The right one is the miss press. Edited March 27, 2008 by Prophonics 2029
Guest Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) My Original West Coast demo P933 - Made of styrene and a Monarch stamp with delta 54132 - which makes it october 64 I think. Fantastic oldie !!!! Edited March 30, 2008 by mossy
Guest Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 (edited) Quiet early, I would have thought 66. No, it was released twice in 1964 -SEPTEMBER as an A side and OCTOBER as the B side on copys of "Twelfth of never" for some reason? - Thinks thats about right - 924) Here She Comes / Malibu - (this release got to number 92 in the RnB charts) 933) The Twelfth Of Never / Here She Comes; this is the release with miss press of "I wont cry Anymore" as the b side (did not chart) Check Dave Flynns site for the monarch dates / matrix info - Both 1964 releases see https://www.soulexpress.net/tymes.htm Cheers Mossy Edited March 30, 2008 by mossy
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Oh I agree with you Mossy is just the sound content and style of the record makes me think later.
Guest Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Oh I agree with you Mossy is just the sound content and style of the record makes me think later. Sorry bud - mis read that. Anyway - Good info and great scans of a class oldie
Chris L Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 pretty obvious from the picture, its styrene with stick on label so it's an original, isn't it? but wasn't aware this was booted, when and why? It was booted but on the other Parkway demo labe not the 2 shields design (unless I'm wrong :-) check for stamp on run-out, it's very, very, erry faint, if you can just about see it, it's a goodie.
