boba Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 This must be THE bargain of the week, fabulous and rare Detroit group item of the highest order. Marc which item are you referring to?
pikeys dog Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 £209 for a poster? These were often done by sign writers in the 70s... real works of art... no cut and paste and run off 100 copies on the laser printer. I've got a 1976 Samanthas Allnighter poster framed up and it looks the mutts nuts.
Soulcarp Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Ward Burton...Ooh my god! TOP TUNE/PRICE... should of payed $1000 when i had the chance a few years ago dam
Quinvy Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 should of payed $1000 when i had the chance a few years ago dam Is there a femail version of this Johno? I'm sure Butch played one at Burnley last month.......
SteveM Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Is there a femail version of this Johno? I'm sure Butch played one at Burnley last month....... Cressa/Cressida Watson ?
Chalky Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Cressa/Cressida Watson ? It is Cressa Steve and there's also Martha Starr, same artist if you ask me and virtually same song except for a break in one. Ward Burton, dunno why the price questioned? damn rare record and worth it IMHO.

I've got a 1976 Samanthas Allnighter poster framed up and it looks the mutts nuts. I've still got my Pier anniversary, Wakefield Unity and signed Ritz Ric-Tic revue posters might have to dig them out of storage. I think I will leave the dreadful Casino one in the loft though

pikeys dog Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Is the Cresa Watson unreleased Chalky? Came out on a UK LP.
Chalky Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) Came out on a UK LP. I think I've seen it listed in the label discography once upon a time but I've never seen one. Edited March 27, 2008 by chalky
Steve G Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 It is Cressa Steve and there's also Martha Starr, same artist if you ask me and virtually same song except for a break in one. Ward Burton, dunno why the price questioned? damn rare record and worth it IMHO. Martha Starr- wasn't it on Charay? I saw Clarky's copy once fleetingly. Steve
Tony Smith Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Martha Starr- wasn't it on Charay? I saw Clarky's copy once fleetingly. Steve Butch's old Tobi Lark C/U, miles better than Ward Burton which should've been used for clay pigeon shooting.
Pete S Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 The Cressa Watson slipped out on an Ace LP in the early 80's. Think it might have been called 20 R&B Greats.
Marc Forrest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Martha Starr- wasn't it on Charay? I saw Clarky's copy once fleetingly. Steve Exactly...Carl Fortnum played it heavily too. Don`t like the Ward Burton version though...but can understand its rarity and demand.
Marc Forrest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 which item are you referring to? Hi Boba, as there`s only one Detroit Group record included so of course its the Grand Prix`s I am on about....joke, of course I missed quoting in my initial posting mate Marc
Steve G Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Butch's old Tobi Lark C/U, miles better than Ward Burton which should've been used for clay pigeon shooting. Funny comment but ironically most of the copies of Tommy Ridgeley on international City WERE actually used for target practice - strange but true!
Marc Forrest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 ...most of the copies of Tommy Ridgeley on international City WERE actually used for target practice... Why ?
boba Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi Boba, as there`s only one Detroit Group record included so of course its the Grand Prix`s I am on about....joke, of course I missed quoting in my initial posting mate Marc I thought that was the one you were talking about but wasn't sure because Lew Stanley had one he kept trying to move on ebay for like $499 starting bid and never got bids on it (he might have sold it eventually).
Marc Forrest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Very strange indeed. I think it is a fantastic 45 and rarer than most people think maybe ? With a soundclip I would have imagined a much higher result as most people seem to have not knonw the tune before although it had been included an CD "recently". Marc
Guest moggy Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) The Cressa Watson slipped out on an Ace LP in the early 80's. Think it might have been called 20 R&B Greats. Its not called that Pete, its something like 20 Undiscovered/Unearthed Northern Soul Records fookin daft title anyway, my missus bought me a copy one Christmas years ago Honest If Tony Parker reads this thread, me and him had a conversation about the said same record years ago at Bretby, Id never heard the tune until I got this LP and gave it a blast, which was how I was able to tell Tony its was Clarrisa Watson, its in the loft somewhere now, good tune though Connie Clark : My Sugar Baby Joker £679 mind boggling sum, who pays these prices Edited March 27, 2008 by moggy
Guest moggy Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Funny comment but ironically most of the copies of Tommy Ridgeley on international City WERE actually used for target practice - strange but true! I put a copy of Barnaby Bye on ebay a couple of years ago for couple of quid looked on my site one morning and noticed a : Question from etc, it read "This record should be hung from a tree and shot, and is one of the main reason I stopped going to Wigan and Northern soul doo"s " I thought fookin hell, who"s upset him needless to say he did not purchase the said item
Steve G Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Why ? The distributor who had 2,000 copies couldn't shift them so he used the vast majority (over 1800 copies apparantly) as target practice for his kids to practice with their Loo-ee-sea-Anna air guns. You couldn't make it up if you tried Mark - that is a bona fide story and explains why it's a hard record.
Sebastian Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) Its not called that Pete, its something like 20 Undiscovered/Unearthed Northern Soul Records No, it's called: "20 Great Unknown Soul Classics of The 60's & 70's". Released on an ACE subsiduary called CASCADE with catalogue number DROP 1013. Edited March 27, 2008 by Sebastian

Sebastian Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 If there Unknown how did they find them for the LP Weird indeed! And what is an "unknown classic". How can it be "classic"?

Quinvy Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Martha Starr- wasn't it on Charay? I saw Clarky's copy once fleetingly. Steve I just spoke to Clarky. He sold it to Butch 15 years ago there goes another dream then....
Guest woolie mark Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 WTF happened with the dolly gilmore? i saw it was £450 with over a day to go and so didn't pay any further attention cos it seemed it was likely to close about £550 again when i was tidying up my pc saw it had closed for about £300 - i would have gone higher than that how could that happen? surely at least two people must have bidded it up to £450?

"WTF happened with the dolly gilmore?" A bidder bid £15,100 he meant to bid £151. Our website hosts changed the bid to £151 after we recieved a frantic e-mail from him. We immediately explained an "error" bid had been made and removed at the end of the write-up of the record. Edited March 31, 2008 by john manship
Ady Croasdell Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks Sebastian, thats the one If there Unknown how did they find them for the LP Master tapes that Ted Carroll the compiler hadn't seen or heard before. You're right about the "Clasics" ploy though Sebastian!
