Why Are The Label Numbers So Out Of Sync

Just got acopy of Lee Morris - I have love for you on Starville label number 1983

But why are all the other records listed on this label in the 1200s e.g. sheila banks / desires etc

surely this label did not have over 700 releases

The 80s starville was a reformed version of the label. The original label was owned by Tom Lewis (who died in a fire in a nightclub he owned in the 80s). The 80s version of the label was owned by Tom Lewis, Otis Leaville, and Gus Redmond (the TOG on the label). So they did not use the same numbering system.

I think they are all worth a blind buy. Seems like a few copies of I Can't Belieive You're Lovin Me, Lee & Co 002 have popped up recently too.
