Guest Leigh J Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 The intro sounds out and he jumps out from behind the curtain wearing an Elvis type white jumpsuit, beckons the ladies towards him with a finger and writhes his hips Tom Jones style, black slicked back hair and sideburns...beer gut hanging over his waistband...manages a half spin...thangyooverymuch I still love It , Great Days
Pete S Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I still love It , Great Days I've never heard it played out to be honest, but the horns in it always remind me of those Chris Andrews productions like Yesterday Man and the ones on Strike. Granted it's a stomper, but just not for me.

Granted it's a stomper, but just not for me. You should know more about this than most Pete as its a Uk release , I dont recall seeing anything else on Plexium . I can remember when Guy first played it he never covered it up so it was pretty rare , a few have turned up since , the last one I saw for sale was 400 notes. Not as good as Steve Aldo on Parlaphone Though.

Not as good as Steve Aldo on Parlaphone Though. It's a different design Plexium to all the others I think. A few turn up on the label, Burning Bridges is the commonest, and I think I've got one called The Butlins Stomp or something like that! Also theres one mega rare psych thing on the label as well.

Not as good as Steve Aldo on Parlaphone Though. Or Mark Loyd ... Albeit a slower tempo. Danny Everard used to play SJC regularly at the Fleet circa 85' - Think his enthusiastic intro follow by Soul Joe's equally enthusiastic intro is what endeared us to it. Be interesting to see a poll result on the soulful like-ability of this. As if it was utter shite, I fancy it wouldn't be hundreds, despite how rare it is?
Modernsoulsucks Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Pete you heartless ba***rd,how could you include the High &Mighty based as it is on a true story where a brave fisherman rescued a beautiful Cuban refugee but was unable to save her poor brother who tragically died from the fever. May have been Ebola or too much Peggy Lee but we don't get to find that out from the lyric. So heart-rending it cannot help but touch one's soul and deserves to be removed from this list immediately. I would point out that this plea has nothing to do with the fact that I have one for sale at the moment. ROD

Modernsoulsucks Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 No Pete I believe it is the Mello Souls recording under a different name with a guest vocal by Sam Dees. Again this conjecture is nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that I have a copy for sale at the moment. I can add that on this extremely rare and collectible promo copy "H&M" has been crossed out and the words "Mello Souls" have been added in genuine 1960's biro. Some people have suggested it looks like my writing but Im sure Mr. Manship and his micrometer would soon put that slur on my integrity to rest. Besides I don't own a biro as Im not allowed to have sharp objects here. ROD

Your a pretty good judge,I personally use to play Los Canarios at the Wheel in 1969 not my favourite but not that bad, probably at least 200 worse on the scene in the 70's and even now but I understand why this was highlighted although Panic should be in the first 2 IMHO.BTW I played a sound in the late 60's( but I think I got away with it )that deserves to be in the top 10.
