Dazdakin
just found membership card no.1439 typed in black not red chris Never missed one keele nighter, they were the nutts for everything attendance, atmos, people, dancers, some strange powder?? For some reason they always reminded me of hinckley lc. Best memories of keele watching crazy mad mick rip going at it on the dance floor, and laughing my nuts off at phil warrells antics. Great nights never to be forgotten because they will NEVER be like it was bitd. Todays events just do not cut it for me so i only go to a couple a year now but always end up being a little miffed at how "nothing" they seem to be. Ah well, memories eh. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Guest melandthensome
I went to the All-nighters a lot at keele and could write a book about the things I had done there good/bad lol.I frequently travelled up in the later years to Neil and jackies gaff first and to julies and john hodges. Was with billy gower and belinda a lot plus pete lawson and frank jackson plus phil worral and loads of others.Good mates with Nogger as well and loads of others from there. I remember escorting jackie to her car with all the takings in her posession of the night and she was being clocked by a few shadey f..........rs but when I came down to escort her I only knew them all lol.......says it all. So nothing happened. Neil Clowes now I cant say enough good things about this guy He is without a doubt one of the best mates I know from the scene and will always be.We would always be backing each others corners if anything looked like it may of going to kick off with piss heads etc.And one of the most funniest and trustworthy guys on the scene. I remember he was after a Inspirations and came over to myself and frankiej beaming with delight but after we looked at it was the wrong record lol. I have a tape from about 1990 I think or thereabouts live. Great memories with Dave alcock/paddy maglinchy/smokey/pete lawson/frankiej/the n wales crew/skem/ormskirk crew/billyy belinda/nogger/phil/julie john hodge/shrewsbury crew/notts crew.........bloody loads of good times. I remember coming out one morning and my mate Mick Lyons was walking over and it was err so sunny I couldnt focus my eyes on who it was and seemed to appear to walk passed him like a 'drunk' lol thats my excuse........always went back to pauls gaff after the nighters then to Neils for more sounds and gen talking shite lol Have more to post but maybe later mel Link to comment Social source share
Guest Keith Beardmore
Neil Clowes ran it, awesome nighters...anyone else remember them, anyone have any memories. Super period , the best nighters were The Empress at Blackburn and Keele, incidentally Jackie Clowes has her 50th birthday party tonight saturday 27th June 2008 at Burslem Stoke on Trent. Bob Banks is taking Nogger ( one of the orig.Keele DJ `s ) in his wheelchair. The Keele Nighters were allways packed, they needed to be it`s expensive to hire.Keith Minshall I believe pays £2500 for the privilage these days.Although last week had 246 people in, it still made a slight loss . Bought some great vinyl over the years from the Keele record bar. Cheers Keith Beardmore Link to comment Social source share
Chalky
Although had many good nights at Keele, after the feast of newies we had in the 80's Keele for me was when it started to go backwards musically. Too many "oldies" and repeat plays. I can remember one night I thought there was just one box of 100 or so records for the DJ's to Dj from Was a great record bar though! 1 Link to comment Social source share
Stuart Bower
Used to catch a bus through from Sheffield - took bleedin ages - with a change at Hanley if my memory isn't completely shot... Was always frozen and had a numb arse when I arrived there. Used to attend Keele in the early nineties whenever i could-got most of the patches. Once went from Rotherham with a guy who worked for British Rail on the trains. We got off a stop too early. Then we started hitchhiking whilst "under the influence". He didn`t know where he was going either. Got stopped by the police-two suspicious characters carrying holdalls in the dead of night...After being searched we asked for a lift into the next village..and a got a police escort back to the PREVIOUS village-fascists! Arrived about ten minutes before Keele closed then made our way back to Crewe train station- down the hill that lasts forever if you`re walking....happy days though-funny as fukc.... Stuart Bower
I remember it for the wrong reasons. I sold off a load of very good records there, all 'priced to sell' (sorry pete), as it were. I literally gave them away in retrospect. Never mind, I have to say that though I only went once, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was 1992/3 & I'd just moved to Spain, thinking... what use am I gonna have for these old records over there? How wrong I was!! Was this the membership card? My card was black and dark yellow. I had to reinforce it with sellotape after long to stop it falling apart.... Link to comment Social source share

oldsteve woomble
Like wise, I am told I had some good nights at Keele We did a mini bus from Cleethorpes (can't recall if it was a regular thing as remember rolling up in a fleet of cars too...). Once got picked up at the guest-house I was shacking up at after me and the missus of the time had parted company........ So that must have been late 1992.........It was fab (keele - not the guest house). Recall buying Alfie Davison for a tenner (the record, not the actual human being), Garnett Mimms white demo for a fiver and one of the lads got a Paris Blues orig out of someones junk box for £1. Loads of great vinyl bargains.......... Strange how things stick in your mind when you think back innit? For some reason, remember somone chuckin a banana skin on the dancefloor one Christmas when someone cheekily spun 'That's What Christmas Means To Me'. Maybe it was a '5-a-day' promotion evening?........ Link to comment Social source share

Theresa
Great days, proper across the board policy, but also a pretty groundbreaking alternative room in its day - here's a tiny pic of the hubby Justin doing his stuff at Keele in his dungarees - the original rubberlegs man, hope it comes out OK. We've got a couple of hours video footage from Sat 26 March 94 - will see if we can get some copies done. Link to comment Social source share

Yes, was one of my best nighters in the 90s, that with Bradford Queens hall, Tonnys empress Blackburn & Droylsden. Only missed one nighter in 10 years at Keele! I use to go by scooter 90-94 & park right outside the main doors.. Good old days Link to comment Social source share

Brookesy
Anyone remember the minutes silence for Pete Lawson? Immediately followed by "Girl across the street?" And they handed out copies of the Ormskirk Advertisers front page with Petes story as the headline. Link to comment Social source share
Guest
Keele Nighter.. That was the place where I had my first.. what I call "moment" at a nighter.. it was as tho the room was empty except for me and the DJ.. the sun was coming up just.. i looked up and saw the night / day coming over the glassy roof.. the tingling I had up my spine /back of my neck was something else.. the track playing at the time was I Need Love - Daybreak.. every time I hear that track now, it instantly takes me back to that moment in time. I went there throughout the early to mid 90s.. and will go back one day.. times changed and situations changed. made it impossible to get there. But I will definately go back.. Used to go with mates from Oswestry.. Never see that lot anymore, not sure if they still go ? Ricey, Barney, Bev , Kevin, Goose, Claire.. anyone know? Hooker1951
Keele was a great all nighter when Neil Clowes promoted it, I had the pleasure of DJ,ing for Neil in its Halycon days on numerous occasions all through the early and mid nineties and was proud to be part of the set up it was a real good mix of Soul Sounds that pleased everybody at sometime of the night, The later ones when different promoters tried it never got the magic back. But I think most people who visited then have great memories of great nights KR Mick L 3 Link to comment Social source share
Solidsoul
I went to many Keele allnighters. Really good atmosphere. Dance floor was usually always full. I remember great dj's like Mick Smith, Butch and Bob Hindsley and many more of that high standard. The large record bar was really good as well. Always well attended, and mostly everybody was friendly, but you were taking a chance putting your records in the car halfway through the night, if you wanted to see them in the morning Edited November 26, 2021 by D9 Ktf 1 Link to comment Social source share

Andy northwood
Loved Keele in the early 90’s, I have my membership card stored somewhere safe, as well as a couple of anniversary patches. I do remember chatting to a girl from Hastings called Helen I believe, we saw her there often and often wonder if she’s still on the scene Link to comment Social source share

Soul16
Blimey, I’d forgotten I uploaded those videos to YouTube. There was more footage but the quality was very poor due to the low lighting in there. I remember walking in there for the first time and ‘You can’t mean it’ by Chapter Five was belting out of those massive speakers high up on the wall. The atmosphere was electric and I was instantly hooked. My membership number was 227 I think, so not far behind you in the queue Steve. 3 Link to comment Social source share

Soulandy
Membership and patches with 8 & 11 missing. I think i missed about 5 niters altogether. If my memory is right, i went after the Manchester derby when United got beat 5-1 at main road, 23rd September 1989. The best thing about that weekend and a saving grace. Were the anniversaries in September like Wigan? 1 Link to comment Social source share
