Great niter.. Ps what was the name of the pub in the Village we all went to before it opend. Ps...always enjoyed Noggers Torch spots... Great times!! I actually chose to go to uni at Keele ('90 - '93), having been to the nighters previously! It was great; I had a flat on campus so when the nighters were on everyone used to pile back to mine. It was carnage!! There are 2 pubs opposite both entrances - the one in Keele Village was the Sneyd Arms, the other at the other entrance was the Golfers. Spent an awful lot of my time in the latter during my 3 years there! Will have to scan some of my pics from then. Mossy (who's on here) is spouting a marvellous 'tache in all of them Rich
Rhino Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Neil Clowes ran it, awesome nighters...anyone else remember them, anyone have any memories. had some top nights at keele the purple light shining on the mirror ball was a bit mad though, always a good atmosphere and music was always spot on and a good record bar got alot of good tunes there. remember my mate jonesy slipping on the stairs and landing in a hep at the bottom was f.a.f but he didnt think so

Ady Potts Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I always liked that neon sign behind the dj's that said Okeh. Just thought, I took a camcorder in there one night in 94/95 up onto that raised walkway balcony, got a couple of hours footage I think, then the security bloke asked me to come down. will dig it out & see who's on it

Platters 81 Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Keele was a super niter....lively record bar (which was close to the bar)...great dancefloor ...didnt the students do the bar?.....i remember the tipple was pints of Scrumpy Jack..which along with everything else was v hectic.....in the days when the bar closed relatively early...a mate ..Big Les from Trent Vale...used to secrete stocks of SJ all over the building.....on one occasion at the front...in between dances he reached inside a speaker and produced a full pint at 6-30 am......(warm...but thats dedication)...remember the al fresco seats outside in that alcove/balcony on the left during the summer months?...the waft of herbal tobacco.....the tunes in the background...the insane chatter.......just marvellous.....

Crystal Tipps Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Reading this has taken me back! Keele was the 3rd niter I'd ever been to (way back in 1991) and it was awesome It used to be packed and had such a great atmosphere. Can remember everyone being really excited about going - even to the point of everyone I knew really making an effort in deciding what to wear and even getting their hair cut specially beforehand.. and that was just the guys!!!

macca Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I remember it for the wrong reasons. I sold off a load of very good records there, all 'priced to sell' (sorry pete), as it were. I literally gave them away in retrospect. Never mind, I have to say that though I only went once, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was 1992/3 & I'd just moved to Spain, thinking... what use am I gonna have for these old records over there? How wrong I was!! Was this the membership card?
Guest Nogger Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Yes it was the membership card. Remember one year SIGNAL RADIO were there broadcasting a live on air show and it was absolutely packed. I had never seen KEELE so full. Nogger
Guest moggy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Great memories of Keele as stated always packed, dance floor always full, hot sweaty, awsome & you could smoke back then records galore in the bar, gotta say was up there with Wigan for getting hold of choons spent a fuggin fortune there, but got hold of some great pieces, Djs always top notch super line ups, very few gripes if any about Keele Me, Rimmer, Bullock, Weston, Jimmy & Julie loads of old friends Im getting all emotional now
Pauldonnelly Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 The Sneyed arms in the Village 9pm to 10-30 was like a Wrigleys convention, always packed, lots of natter and the odd ale.... you would enter the nighter, a smile from Neil and Jackie, a natter to anyone who knew ya in the cafe, up them stairs turn left through them doors and woosh, you could SMELL a proper nighter. How about keele 92 reunion night Nogger???
Guest Nogger Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 PAUL, Keele, That's when Nighters we're Nighters. Alway's packed, alway's Hot and sweaty. But them days are gone, never mind (that's my opinion) Nogger....

How about keele 92 reunion night Nogger??? Really liked Keele in the early 90's, and still liked it in recent years, but isn't the dance floor about half the size it used to be? It looks like they moved the stage and back wall forward, halfing the size of the room, so I don't think it would be the same there as the early days !
Stuart Bower Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 patch on post #7 That`s one of the few anniversary patches I`ve never had!

Didn`t they change the colour of the membership card? To Yellow and Black? BTW I remember having to wrap sellotape round the card to strengthen it as it was falling apart. Can`t find the card-I`m sure it`s hanging around somewhere. If I find it I`ll scan it or take a photo and post it up. Great nighter-one of the best.
macca Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 mine is yellow & black. just came out like that on the scan...

Professorturnups Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I first went to Keele on the 1st Anniversary (1989) with a lad from Norwich called Steve Jenkinson (RIP) We were so excited we got there before everybody else!! We used to meet Maxine & Dave Parnham (Rotherham) - everyone sat in the same place in those days - their area was along the right hand side half way down . She always wore a red checked skirt and ankle socks - haven't seen them for a while Anybody seen them recently? Mark C
goodisonturf Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I can remember having to meet up with you in The Snayed Arms after they stopped us using the golf club. Also never used to miss along with my buddy Steve Thomson. Sneeking out of the slip road off the services & trying to avoid the police

Yes was made up with promotion this year & without the help of the managers dad's inexperianced players hopefully they will have back to back promotion & we can meet up at Burnley. Yes Keele was the last "Proper" allnighter where you could always gaurentee picking up that elusive vinyl long before the days of ebay

Also never used to miss along with my buddy Steve Thomson. Sneeking out of the slip road off the services & trying to avoid the police As far as i know there was some shady dealings with Chris King being ripped off & then Neil who was always a gentleman & friend just dissapeared probably to spend all his energy on his everyday business. Nogger or Keith Minshull are probably the best to inform you. I always used to enjoy Bob anks warm up 1st hour
Rob Wigley Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) Neil Clowes what a great bloke, nogger knows what he is up to. I had the great pleasure of DJing at the 1st Anniversary All-nighter--Now here is a strange one neil had all the DJs a solid silver heart shaped bookmarker made with "OKEH, Keele 89" on them. I treasure mine, also his daughter (then 16) was just embarking on a singing career, she had hit singles in Austrailia i think ! great nights and the best record bar in the Country at the time rob & karen Edited June 1, 2008 by Karen and Rob Wigley 1

Jez Jones Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I first went to Keele on the 1st Anniversary (1989) with a lad from Norwich called Steve Jenkinson (RIP) We were so excited we got there before everybody else!! We used to meet Maxine & Dave Parnham (Rotherham) - everyone sat in the same place in those days - their area was along the right hand side half way down . She always wore a red checked skirt and ankle socks - haven't seen them for a while Anybody seen them recently? Mark C Aha yes!!! This was my first nighter since 73/74 casino. I remember having a massive fallout with misses(don't know what over ) and going down to the pub to sink some. Met some guys i knew from way back in there Stan harding ,Sneaksy, and Rob Booth from Congleton and they were going. I didn't take much persuading they sorted me out and off we went to Sneyd Arms. Full of student nurses if I remember from the UNI Got in the event and WOW ----as has been mentioned a sweaty high octane nighter. The music had changed from what I knew but the f**king atmosphere hadn't!!!! . Outside ahving a fag with Stan and the lads just as day was breaking and they said what do you reckon then? Not bad I suppose. Not f**king bad they replied look at your f**king t shirt. It was black when I started but was bloody white now with salt from me sweat Been dancing all night-- totally off it Got back home at stupid o clock next day(walk of shame) and the mother of all bollockings followed for days worth it though Oh and still got me anniv patch somewhere-------great time
