Just been rakeing through my racks and a copy of Herbert Hunters "Hide nor Hair" on HIT stopped me with the thought of what other examples i could think off. To start here is a few to get rollin, lets have yours, the more obscure of the obscure the better!!

Ofcourse the HIT label will no doubt feature in this excersise!!

Herbert Hunter "Hide nor Hair" HIT

Herbert Hunter "Bring it on home to me" HIT

Esther Phillips "Compared to What" AVCO

Jenny & Jewels "Love is Like a Itching" HIT

Ditto "Love Child" Hit

Timothy Wilson "Love is like a Itching" Blue Rock

Leaders "You are the one i love" Blue Rock

Lord Sitar - Black is Black was one of the strangest cover versions I ever heard played.

Used to have album,George Harrison production.........unlucky tho`i have a Capitol demo,so will get posted up later :D

And lets not forget the fine rendition of "a lovers concerto" by Mrs Miller, and other fine covers by her :D

while going through my album collection in order to thin it out a bit, came across two album tracks by bobby vee that fit into that "alternative versions" scheme:

let nobody love you (virginia blakely)

run like the devil (kenny roberts)

BTW, anyone with a nice copy of the kenny roberts release for me?

Posted

i like the geoffrey meteliko version of Got to find a way- Happy tiger

and prefer trieste version to anderson brothers- i can see him loving you.

No, it's a different tune and lyric entirely.

The Howard Tate song is a very Soulful, midtempo, record.

Whereas, the Bobby Paris "Night Owl" is an uptempo, singalong, affair!

love playing alternate versions when theyre good enuff..anyone mention better use your head/robin wilson....she blew a good thing/donald height....ill bet you /theresa lyndsey...green onions/righteous bros band..all good tunes although not very obscure or odd !

could choose hundreds of reggae and rocksteady, especially studio one as the producer coxsone dodd would visit the us and take a big pile of sevens back to jamaica to cover in a reggae stylee !...fave for me is night owl/harace andy ...off top of me 'ead also.. raise your hands/prince buster...all the love ive got/john holt

also got a "dodgy" cover of....wait for it....everybodies fave "the snake" ! on a 10" which actually isnt dodgy at all
