Simon T Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 The Limelights - Don't Leave Me Baby - / uncle on Ebay so when's the last time you saw this for sale? Urrr I cant actually remember ever seeing it for sale personally. mal.C. I've known it for sale twice, but I think it's the same copy. In the mid 80's Keb had it for sale at the Fleet, still covered up as the Silhouettes, and I seem to remember it was very expensive, a 3 figure sum. Then I it was for sale again about 3 years ago, for I was told a 4 figure sum. Other, than that copy, I only know of another that I think Mick Smith has/ had. The proverbial rocking horse sh*t?

Bamber Bridge / Preston is awash with em; well, mine's still ere anyway. Please, don't anyone tell Mr Cunliffe as he'll prise it from my sweaty grasp for sure Good luck gentlemen Phil
Gasher Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 dont think luck comes into it Phil just sheer determination ,stupidity and an credit card haha gasher
Chalky Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 this record far far rarer than many record that often fetch a 4 figure sum. How many times do you see Gene Toones for instance (last one on popsike being over $3k) compared to this.
Mal C Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 ok so I guess theres a few more of us all going for it then? gasher Come on then gasher, I lay down the gauntlet... Whats your limit on the plastic dood!!! Laughs mal

M Funny thing is Mal, the b*ggers I'm after seem to be Still chasing both Little John and Trent Sisters ... ... how many bl**dy years? I'd absolutely re-mortgage myself for either of them or a Little Stanley. Can't be too many copies of Two Plus Two on Velgo about either are there? Phil

soul45s Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Just saw this bootleg of it on ebay, the seller has loads of boots for sale, when are Ebay gonna do something about all this crap for sale https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...2BSI%26otn%3D12
Gene-r Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 From what I'm led to believe, Keb had the only copy which first belonged to Dave Withers. Both Messrs Darge and Withers played it covered up as The Silhouettes (Keb was still playing it covered up as late as 1986). In 1991, Ady Pierce auctioned what was believed to be the second known copy - I don't know what it went for, but I do remember seeing it in a list of his at the time.
Gasher Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 john anderson listed one about 7-10 years ago at £1500 gasher
Guest marco Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I know Butch has one (he would wouldn't he!) and he sold a spare (flash git) to Tim Brown about 3 years ago or so. Pete Hullat. Phil T. Who else?
Tony Smith Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 It was covered up as Otis Pollard as I far as I recall, maybe Rod will confirm, I know of at least 5 different copies.

Who else? Butch got one out of Jim Wensioras collection for a nice price, I remember the other copy he had as well.
Simon T Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 It was covered up as Otis Pollard as I far as I recall, maybe Rod will confirm, I know of at least 5 different copies. Keb put on a tape for me in the mid 80's as the 'Silhouettes'
Tony Smith Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I can still remember Keb having an acetate of it as Otis Pollard ( it may have been Otis Pollard and the Silhouettes) any way it was a Dave Withers/Rod Shard sound/discovery so I'll wait for confirmation from Rod thanks
Modernsoulsucks Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Yes it was one of our plays but it was that blonde cherub with the tousled locks,Dave Raistrick who came up with it along with the Young Brothers and he kindly let us have both.To be honest I don't remember us covering it as Silhouettes but we made so little impact after dj-ing for 6 months or so that I wouldn't be surprised if Keb decided to cover it as no one probably noticed first time around. I will ask Dave though as he may recall. ROD

Guest Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I've known it for sale twice, but I think it's the same copy. Hi,just in passing, did'nt Ian Levine have this in 1974?Was it not IL that discovered it? Surely this is another "impossible" rarity? Any information, anyone?Price?
Dave Pinch Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 trouble is is probably too rare....last couple of times up for sale its been a bit dissapointing ...... about £1200 i think... altho its as rare as any of the magnetics i think JM auctioned one last year and it didnt do that well
Chalky Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) I presume the one Keb had was the one Dave/Rod had? It was played at Lifeline to a busy floor last month. Great record everything a northern DJ could want in a record IMO. Edited March 12, 2013 by chalky 1
George G Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I've tried to sell this (M-) for $3000 with no takers. I can understand better now, for 1200 pounds I'll keep it, although living in the US and not being part of Northern Soul culture I am at a disadvantage in selling records like this. I would glady trade it for a Magnetics "Count the days"!
bri pinch Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 and thats the sad thing George ..the Limelighters is ten times rarer than the Magnetics..but may not even sell for as much
Andreas B Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I remember the last one on Manship's going for around £800 2
Chalky Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 and thats the sad thing George ..the Limelighters is ten times rarer than the Magnetics..but may not even sell for as much I think it's a better record as well. But the mainstream crowd still don't know it really, shame. 1
