Guest Kevin J Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 can someone please identify the original tracks that he sings over on his Studio 1 "Showcase" LP. the only one that i know is "Vanity," which is my favorite Alton Ellis track, "Im Just A Guy." mmhmm. learning. soooo much reggae output ... i mean, i grew up with this stuff (see: Hawaii), but never really gave it much critical thought and such.
TOAD Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 leave it with me , dont have the lp but a label listing with the versions in t
ZapatootheTiger Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 If TOAD doesn't come back with the answers - I have the album "upstairs" and will dig it out and see what can come up with. Having said that, there may be a number of early versions of these rhythms...so anything I come up with may not be definitive... But hey! it's Jamaican music we're talking about here
Guest Kevin J Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) this is going to sound silly, as well, its far past 2am, but i wish yous could see how big a part that reggae, in general, plays in the daily lives of folks living in Hawaii. certainly different than what happened in the uk during the 60s, but there is sooo much love for the music there. honestly grew up on the stuff. granted, mostly the "roots" records, but fantastic none the less. reggae is essentially "comfort music" for me. yes, now off to bed. and cant wait to see the list in the morn Edited March 15, 2008 by Kevin J
ZapatootheTiger Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I've just listened to the album and as usual, though I know most of the rhythms, I either can't place them or the versions I have won't be the originals. Here's what I've got... 1. (Vanity) - Alton Ellis I'M JUST A GUY 4. (Never Give Up) - Heptones' PRETTY LOOKS ISN'T ALL 7. (Try Love) - Keith & Tex TONIGHT (for Derrick Harriott) - I bet the original Studio one rhythm pre-dates this. 12. (Love Gonna Pack Up) - Alton Ellis BREAKING UP 14. (Party ime) - Heptones PARTY TIME 15. (Change Your Ways) - Cables' WHAT KIND OF WORLD? 16. (Come On Home) - (Cornel Campbell & the) Eternals QUEEN OF THE MINSTREL ...a bit of a help...
