It's probably been asked before, but I haven't seen the thread.

  • Why do All-nighters start so early and finish so early now, where as in the past the main time a Nighter used to start was around the 12 O'clock mark. I ask this question from the point of view of a long distance traveller, if a Nighter starts at 9pm to get to somewhere like Manchester from the start we usually leave in the afternoon where as when places like Blackburn and Bradford were on we were able to leave later as they started about 12 and finished around 8? Not a moan just a question.
  • Also looking back on flyers, the numbers of DJs at a Nighter seem to have doubled, any reason for this? Once again not a moan just a question

So please if a couple of promoters could let me know what is probably a very obvious and sensible reason?

Not sure about everyone else's reasons but I can tell you from our perspective.

The Benn Hall is the only big, decent venue in Rugby and thus is wanted by everyone. This meant we had to be out by 6am for the next ones in to set up.

We wanted to still give 10 hours, so had to start 8pm.

We also had brilliant backing for the last five years from the soul nite crowd and would not turn our backs on them.

When we had our trial all-nighter Feb '07, the management were so impressed, they agreed straight away to start 2008 with all all-nighters, the only hiccup there was that April and Sept already had people coming in at 6am!!!

So, rather than not running those two, we went for 5am finish...still 9 solid hours of dancing...

And what a bloody good night it is too Sian

some venues take into account things like, security staff cos they cost a fortune, also many people drink early and thats when they take the most money then they leave by about 2am ish maybe a bit later with only a good few hardy souls staying right to the end and the bar isnt taking hardly any money, after all it is a business they run, liscencing may be a problem too even though you canget a 24 hour liscence nowadays

I started running my allnighters from 11pm to 6am. My reasons were based on my own experiences at other events. For example, I noticed that most people were leaving early, and at some nighters, they were empty by 5am. Also, they were very quiet in the early hours. ie. 8pm to 11pm.......I was talked into starting at at 10pm, and use that hour to give people a chance to dj and showcase what they have to offer.......

The fact is, that we are all getting to the stage when we can't go out all weekend, and stay up all night. Especially when we are travelling 2/3/4/ even 5 hours to get to venues.....I'm happy with 10pm to 6am. And even then it can be dead the last hour.....

12pm to 8am sounds fantastic, but in reallity you would struggle to find a venue that would go along with those hours. And I think it would be dead for the last couple of hours......

Just m.h.o. of course.

If you can find me a decent venue that will let you start at 12 i would gladly run it but there arent any not in the northwest anyway,we open at 8 30 by 9 30 we have over 300 in reaching 5 to 600 by 1am,come 7 30 am we either do an extra 30 mins or have to ask everyone to leave.I think its got more to do with the event and lineups what time people arrive and leave a venue, another reason i like to open early is that most of our crowd travel a great distance so giveing value for money is a factor for us.Dont know were youve been going phil thats dead for the last hour :cheese1: .

Thanks guys all very valid points thank you for putting me in the picture, Just one of those questions that pops in to my head whilst day dreaming!! Cheers.

It always used to amuse me standing outside All-nighter venues queuing up as people walked past on their way home, looking at us in a most bemused fashion, a load of wide eyed soulies waiting to start their night as others were just finishing theirs!!!

Maybe see you at Wolverhampton.....around midnight

Maybe i lived in an alternative universe but nighters used to be less about drinking and more about dancing so the bar open or closed never really made a difference...well thats how i remember it anyway.....it was more a gear culture than a beer culture.

I think people leave coz by 2.00am they have been dancing for 5 hours n have usually had a skinful

If niters started later then people would still be up for it at 4.00am

I love leaving a niter in the morning coming out in to the daylight stopping in the services for breakfast on the way home

Maybe im an old romantic but as ive sed before i think then local soul nites would be attended as 'warm ups' n everyone would win

I remember when me and Wilko convinced this pissed up lad that we were a team of decorators from up north waiting to go in and artex the 100 Club when the jazz punters had left. It helped that Wilko actually was an artexer so showed him his real business card

Could almost be a new topic!!! Who or what attended the venues during the evening befor the soul fans took over for the " night shift " and how many times have these twats said " You too late it's just finnished!" only to be met with " Not for us mate , it's just begining!"

  • Also looking back on flyers, the numbers of DJs at a Nighter seem to have doubled, any reason for this? Once again not a moan just a question

So please if a couple of promoters could let me know what is probably a very obvious and sensible reason?

I did a poll not so long ago Anton and if I remember rightly most wanted nighters to start once again at midnight till eight with everyone meeting at a local venue prior instead of pushing the local promotoers out of the picture.

It is however not easy to get a venue for these times with most owners wanting to take full advantage of an earlier start with the bar. It's not that easy to get a quality venue full stop, with many owners not wanting to entertain soul all-nighters.

Valencia Allnighters start at 00:00 and finished at 7:30 with a previous warm up (21:00 till 23:30). Next it´s 12th of april with Ginger Taylor, Dave Moore, Sergio SSM & VNSC Dj´s.
