Anoraks Corner Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 If you're talking about the backing track, allow the ladies and gentlemen of the RareSoulForum.co.uk (from 2003) to answer that old chestnut for you: Frankie & Classicals - What shall I do - Calla 127 1. strings & guitar intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 2. strings + spoken intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 3. no intro / added strings - b/w Good-bye Love (Sailor's sadness) #127BN Frankie & Classicals - What shall I do - Philips UK & Pye UK no intros on either / added strings Laura Greene - Moonlight music & you/Love Is Strange - RCA 9164 (US & UK reissue: orange & grey copies) 4. spoken intro + guitar + harpsichord / added harpsichord Honey Townsend - The World again/Technicolour Dream - Mala 540 5. intro + strings / added strings Subway Riders - After the session/Adam - Moon Shot 6706 (2 issues) 6. intro + organ instead of a harpsichord / added organ - with NYC address on label. 2nd issue = different tune + same title - no address on label. Mark Johnson - This beautiful place/Ode To Otis Redding - Diamond 237 7. no intro / strings + animal effects The Burning Emotions - The new World/The Whatchama Call It - Bang 553 8. intro + strings & animal effects throughout Note: A.B.C. copies are a different tune. The Essex - Moonlight Music & You/The Eagle - Bang 537 9. spoken intro + strings / added strings AND a lyric change........... "Oh, by the way did you bring your radio", unlike Laura's (first name terms by now) "Oh, by he way, did you bring your guitar",

Harry Crosby Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 Just out of intrest was there a more used backing track on the northern scene?
Ian Dewhirst Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Just out of intrest was there a more used backing track on the northern scene? Not to my knowledge. I spoke to Teddy a couple of years back and he laughed when I mentioned all the versions to him. He said "you British guys know more then any of the record companies I kept selling the track to!". When you consider how many times he sold it to different companies and the fact that Laura Greene was used on the Kentucky Fried Chicken ad, he must have ended up making a bundle from a record which never became a hit no matter how many versions were slung at the wall. That Subway Riders version was RARE! Ian D
Mick Holdsworth Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Frankie & Classicals - What shall I do - Calla 127 1. strings & guitar intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 2. strings + spoken intro / added strings - b/w I Only Have Eyes For You #127 3. no intro / added strings - b/w Good-bye Love (Sailor's sadness) #127BN I'm familiar with no. 2 and 3 , as most of us are ... Can't say I've heard of a third variation with strings and guitar intro (no speaking ??) anyone got a sound clip of this ?? Also, wasn't there a track using this backing track by the Globetrotters / RCA Seem to remember talk on here last year about this - possibly unissued RCA acetate Again, any sound clip or confirmation this really exists? Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
