Sorry folks. Don´t know how I missed the original thread.

(BTW, don´t think the guy´s real name was ever mentioned within that thread, instead he was referred to as the Loon, the Nutter etc...LOL).

Probably a psychological thing. Guess I didn´t want to admit that there´s someone who owns more records than I do..

Yes, I did know that some UK soul collectors visited Paul Mawhinney a few years ago buying some of the best soul/R&B 45s.

Anyways, I´m impressed. This guy is dedicated... I´m going to show the missus these links, she keeps telling me that our (my) room full of vinyl is madness, but this puts things in perspective... Does Mr Mawhinney have a family????!!!!!

Cheers,

Mel

well maybe he can give it to a museum and then i can catch him out. I am still collecting so much and want to have one of the biggest collections of music.

He has "five grandchildren", so apparently the record collecting obsession hasn´t caused him to neglect his wife altogether?! Man, I´m fascinated with eccentric people - especially people who are passionate about something...

I totally agree with you. Collecting music is a passion that can grow into eccentric behaviour. The man faces now the same problem as every record collector with a hefty collection does; what to do with your collection after you've gone....

It is indeed a serious problem when there's no family or relatives who are interested in a collection of vinyl. Especially since his wife was not interested in his vinyl anyway, should she inherit such a vast amount of valued vinyl? And the costs of running a museum, like suggested on the site is just too expensive in the long run.

The best way to sell this collection would be on eBay imo....and in small batches by genre etc...
