Schoggi Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 (edited) hi there, i came across this record and wondered if anyone knows something about it or the label? b/w Let Her Love Grow (J-13-4) flip has the same information on the label deadwax a & b: J-13-3 & J-13-4 i'd really like to know where it's from or if PJ recorded any other stuff! it's mid tempo soul with an early 70s sound, the flip is mid-tempo funky soul! sorry, can't record any clips at the moment! any help would be really appreciated! many thanks, rainer btw. here's a soulful mix from xmas 2006 (not straight soul, some variations): https://www.konzeptlos.org/soulfulxmas.mp3 tracklist is here or on the website www.konzeptlos.com with other mixes if you're interested (check the 'sounds' page!) Guest Brett F Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) This is the best thing about this forum, talking records. I'm aware of three different Jab labels one from Los Angeles with around 4 releases (1959), and Frank Armstrongs label from 1955-56 the other was around 1967-68 from Atlanta and distributed through Atco, artists included Wayne Kemp, Johnny Summer, Hal Croft etc., but i have no knowledge of this single, brilliant stuff mate. Brett Fanklin Ps..a Paul Jones also recorded for Ace, Bell, Miltone, Minaret and Private stock, don't know if it's the same guy or different artists. Edited March 9, 2008 by Brett F

The Paul Jones on Bell and, I believe, Private Stock is "our" Paul Jones, i.e. the Radio 2 Blues DJ/Former lead singer of Manfred Mann. The Bell 45 was licensed in - they were picking up quite a bit of UK stuff at the time of its release (Cilla Black, Scaffold, the Locomotove 'Rudi's In Love' etc.) Edited March 9, 2008 by TONY ROUNCE

TheHoneyDripper Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Ps..a Paul Jones also recorded for Ace, Bell, Miltone, Minaret and Private stock, don't know if it's the same guy or different artists. The Paul Jones on Ace and Miltone are the same person - a late '40s LA R&B singer.
