Guest Darks
Great great record. I have a soft spot for the PJ Proby version but it aint quite as good. Was PJ Proby ever played out, Cleethorpes? Can someone confirm whether it was booted as a white demo? I've always assumed mine was a pressing but have seen a white demo identical to mine sold as a proper one. Guest TONY ROUNCE
Billy Vera Billy never recorded it, even as a demo. He wrote the song for a girl to sing, and was quite surprised that only Proby and the Idle Few cut it Billy never knew of the Idle Few's version until comparaitively recently, which is an indication of how marginally their sales must have affected his royalty statements. Must be the original version, interesting and ain't bad in it's own right. John, please, I thought you had better taste than that, P.J.Proby's version is on apart with his Taylors ability to reinforce crotch seams in trousers, in other words "Shi*e", same as his ability to refrain from the demon drink & fulfill his obligations, here endeth the 1st lesson, amen. Anyway we've been getting Ginger to play it (and anyone else that will listen) for past 18 months, cos it's brill but seems everyone wants it on an issue (rarer), one just gone on e-bay for $206. Forgot "YES,YES,YES" it should be played out again & sorry for the small "Rev Ian Paisley" type rant, I don't know what came over me?? Take care, be safe & remember "There's a place for us,somewhere a place for us", Spot. Link to comment Social source share

Guest TONY ROUNCE
So me Billy Vera promo cd isnt him Sorry, Ken, my faux pas - I seem to recall Billy telling me that Lesley Miller did his original demo, because he'd written the song for a girl (she did tons of demos for all sorts of songwriters in New York in the mid 60s). Obviously this old age thing has its side effects. My apologies. The CD (which I don't have a copy of) is incontrovertable evidence that Billy did record it. Mind you, Lesley Miller still might have done the original demo, of course. I'll ask Billy later on... Link to comment Social source share

I'm surprised someone didn't come in with "Idle Few is a soul classic, shame on you for not liking it" like they did to me with The Carstairs the other day The site is split into sections and I was hoping "Look In Your Box" could be more serious than the usual level of playground drivel. For Collectors to swop info on records and collecting. For people to learn about new sounds and find things out. There could be another section on Soul Source for all the people who don't like the records. The "Slagging Down Northern Classics" section for anyone who would be daft enough to read it! There are records I'm not keen on, but I know other people like them and I respect that, so would not spoil it for them. Link to comment Social source share
