Jim G Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Just saw this on JM's auction. I ahve one these, I took it on the way home from the event and have had it for 34 years, it is huge and I have thought it might be rare! I also have the A5 Promo Leaflet for the same event. Both are in certainly in excellent + condition. I would never sell mine, but am curious to see what it goes for.

Guest Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 OHHH....yeesss!......the big old Y-backs what me Dad left me, you know....when "off white" was all the rage.
Guest Paul Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 What a night... dreadful sound but great live acts - especially Mel & Tim. The OOTP bootlegs were selling like hot cakes. I reckon some bootlegs must have been selling 5,0000 copies each in those days. The giant crowd shows how very small the 'northern' soul scene is today. I think I was 15 or 16 at the time so it must have been 1974 or 1975. It's amazing to think so many of us were still at school but we had such a passion for the music. Paul

What I found funny about the event , was the way the DS tried to blend in with the revellers ......... Malc Burton Edited March 3, 2008 by Malc Burton
Guest mel brat Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 The ISC Leeds Queens Hall All - Nighter : "The Dunkirk of the amphetamine generation ......." Malc Burton Quite! - I think most of us would prefer to forget that we were there - not celebrate it by bidding for an original poster! Perhaps they should stamp a special medal for "services beyond the call of Soul duty @ Queens Hall, Leeds, 1974"
Northern Soul Uk Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Being a Leeds resident in those days I obviously went to this event. You're right, it was a s**thole, and it was dirty, but the turnout was amazing and probably the biggest event in Europe at that time. The live acts were excellent although the sound wasn't and there was no dancefloor as such if I remember rightly. But all in all, a good event and a great lineup.
Iancsloft Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Alright jim I have the same poster framed on my wall alongside my torch/va va's etc posters. Guest Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Well is sold for £209 tonight on JM Auction! Buggeration!!!..... more money than brain cells is the term that springs to mind Im glad I went all those years ago but only for the experience, the acts were.....OK, the night was CRAP really cos we couldnt dance and the light started shining through the windows at 4am and caused most of us to comedown. Makeshift plywood dancefloors were a joke.

Makeshift plywood dancefloors were a joke. It was a strange night, too big, a crap hole etc, but, I will always remember it for being right near the front when Majo Lance was live; awesome. I would never part with poster (and A5 leaflet) for that reason alone. Must rare as hens teeth to fetch £209 though.
Guest Ste Brazil Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It was 1974 , Paul ...... What I found funny about the event , was the way the DS tried to blend in with the revellers .........
