Assuming that we can all agree Wigan was the most important venue to the scene, what was the second most important venue?

Clifton hall

 um... depending on if you went there or if it was good for the music i suppose, i.e the mecca, for giving us crossover in the early days, But my choice would be , CLEETHORPES PIER. and SOUTHPORT, for the weekenders.... so thats 2, ha.

I wouldn't call Keel or Trentham Gardens trend setting venues breaking new sounds on a regular basis or having any influence on the scene. Where in Stoke, Kings Hall? Hardly what you call ground breaking either is it? So thats three on your list that in reality have had little or no real influence on the scene IMHO and hardly venues of any importance in the grand scheme of things.

If Wigan is in your opinion the first where are the likes of Stafford and other venues of the 80's?

Got to agree BAZ , Wigan was responsible for the real commercialisation of the scene in the late 70s, remember the pictures of Sandy And Neil Greenwood from Bolton doing cartwheels outside Wigan in the SUN?

Surely the most important were the ones that kicked it all off in the 1st place including the southern and London clubs

My vote for a second which is strange when I havent given a 1st would be Stafford & the 100 Club jointly

Yes Kings Hall, Stoke

Didn't say or want 'ground breaking' wanted 'important' to scene

Good point about Stafford, again maybe mods can add?

What about Yarmouth Weekenders? They were the ground breakers as far as Northern Weekenders were concerned.....IMHO.

If you want to organise a different poll with different venues, I'm happy to close/lock this thread.

Its no big deal to me.

and other venues of the 80's?

I think the answer is in the above Chalky mate, it looks like another attempt to airbrush the 80's due to no doubt "having a break" or watching paint dry or some other equally important past time that meant the beloved Northern scene wasn't so beloved.

I wish that I could just ignore these sort of misinformations but it still riles me, thankfully just paying a flying visit so off to bed with my medication, and hopefully will wake up in the morning and find this was just another of these recurring bad dreams.

Sorry Chalky but you are on your own to correct this one mate, I give in!! See you soon.
