Guest
suppose on a smaller scale it happens every month throughout the summer, scooter rallies! more specialised with the scooter rallies, perhaps if all the promoters of soul events/weekenders joined together there could be an annual soul festival featuring live acts and music from all eras to suit every taste like on the scale of Glastonbury, if only I had a big field to rent Link to comment Social source share

Standard summer festival weather circa 2007 floods err floods err floods so the thought that, we can go and get wet feet, wet clothes, wet sleeping bags, damp tents, filled out caravans ,recovery vehicles stuck up to there axles pulling out stuck RVs and Motorhomes. Ambulances porta loos, hedge bottoms, dirty clothes no dry beer towels, mucky white sox. expensive beer and drinks, semi cold food, manky chips at exorbotant prices. and the poor promoter wondering if the last minute insurance he took out. covers him for acts of God, whether the artists are going to turn up,the rehearsals where shite, the backing band where late. Star turn has a bad neck and still in the states, if ticket sales are anything to go by,is my home remortgageble, etc, etc Yep bring It On, who knows a good company to subsidise and bring it to fruition. like cover all costs and let me keep all the money.or profits. £200,000 should cover it. now who can we get, Star turn, soul all ages Dells, Reggae Jimmy Cliff, Disco go on make up the acts you would like to see Link to comment Social source share

hipshaker 05
well ...... we do a bit at the IOW festival. last year we had andy strickland (walls of heartache), eddie piller (acid jazz), dom cater (berts apple crumble), eneida fever (magic in the air club) and others spinning vinyl in our marquee. we found it a great atmosphere. not sure £200000 would cover the costs of arranging a festival though. macca
In the grounds of a stately home such as Knebworth House would be nice. The catering doesn't have to be awful, Cambridge Folk Festival always has good tucker. A beer tent sponsored by a brewery like Fullers & then individual marquees hosting music by genre, another marquee for record sellers & dealers, & a special area set aside for camping facilities, showers etc; Children's entertainment etc, etc. I don't think it's such a bad idea & I think I'd prefer it to the holiday camp type experience, but then I'm just a snob. I wouldn't mind setting up a tapas stall there. I'd bring a suitably attired spanish granny over to turn out authentic tortillas non-stop. The vino would be brought over in a transit van & I'd wack it out for 8 quid a bottle or two quid a glass. Can't say fairer than that, can you? The more I think about it... Applecrumble - I love you're idea. It would be just fab. We've just put a quote together for something similar (non soul related) and I suggest, take your £200K, double it and add a bit more and then you're talking. To make it something special, you'd need more soulies attending that I think we have in the UK or the price wouldn't be good value for money. It is possible though... If I win the lottery, I'll have a go! Lets give it more thought though, I can daydream about this in the H&S meeting later!. Jayne.x. Link to comment Social source share
