It sounds quiet good from this revue, is it on tour?. Edited February 27, 2008 by Prophonics 2029

Tomangoes Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I must be missing something, it looks like a good idea to me, but as I only went to Wigan Casino a handfull of times Im no expert if its a true reflection of those guys who went week in week out. Might be better to see it and feedback the producer etc what could be improved rather than write it off. Assuming they are planning to tour it eventually you may become there special advisor. Ed

It seems like the web site is quoting promotional materiel for a play that they are putting on? "Blue collar" is used to refer to people who worked in factories or trades (such as apprentice turners?) as opposed to "white collar" which refers to office workers or the professions (Doctors, lawyers etc.) Seems fairly innocent to me. I probably am missing something. Cheers Paul Edited March 1, 2008 by paultp

Having been into Black American music of the 60's and 70's for 30 years, I find it painful that a play that i put 4 years of my life and soul into, has been hijacked and taken totally out of context. I personally dont find the prospect of 4 white actors and a dodgy house band , playing hits from Wigan, very inspiring. Would you like the dj's to sing the songs to you at events, or would you rather listen to the vinyl? Also, the" pun you like" selling of it? its degrading, tacky and S--te!? Like some nights I guess! Manys the slip twixt the cup and the lip as four kids look for soul satisfaction out on the floor!....I shant go on, you might get aroused! But, really...trite, crass Sh--te. Do you not see an irony in the fact that these artists were exploited and misrepresented all those years ago in the U.S.A and now a bunch of white actors are going to be doing crap versions of their songs in a flimsy pantomime? Wheres the respect? Its not how I would show it! I guess, a certain "weekend soulie" type might go and see it.....thats just a sad fact of life.

Ed Did you see the original play? The music was THE thing that made the play what it was. Yes... the actors were great... and the storyline was one a lot of people could relate to. But imagine that without the music. With all the will in the world... nothing... not even the most gifted of musicians... could ever recreate the memories we all have in those songs. Like Paul has already said... would you like DJ's to sing the songs to you at allnighters? Would you pump!

TRUE! whilst listening to American soul music played from vinyl, not sung by Russ Winstanley, Richard Searling, Dave Evison etc!! unless there was a back room I didn't know about?

Would you like the dj's to sing the songs to you at events, or would you rather listen to the vinyl? Didn't realise it was a personal crusade just thought you were moaning about a theatre in Bolton putting on a play about Wigan. Haven't you any rights or protection over the original concept/production? The blurb you linked to doesn't say anything about what colour the "actor musicians" are to be honest. As I said I probably was missing something. The DJ's singing thing is a new twist that just might work after the dance competition actually. Neat idea Also, the" pun you like" selling of it? its degrading, tacky and S--te!? Like some nights I guess! Manys the slip twixt the cup and the lip as four kids look for soul satisfaction out on the floor!....I shant go on, you might get aroused! But, really...trite, crass Sh--te. Pretty standard stuff and again the web site was just quoting promotional materiel. Do you not see an irony in the fact that these artists were exploited and misrepresented all those years ago in the U.S.A and now a bunch of white actors are going to be doing crap versions of their songs in a flimsy pantomime? Wheres the respect? Its not how I would show it! Please, not a "artists exploited" bleat, you'll have me in tears. I take it that its you that feels exploited & misrepresented? Probably rightly so from what you say. I guess, a certain "weekend soulie" type might go and see it.....thats just a sad fact of life. I doubt it is aimed at any sort of Soulie really, maybe the sort that would go to the cafe in Wigan or buy any CD with the word Wigan in the title or T-shirts with "Northern Wigan" on them, but it is more likely aimed at people who didn't know the Casino existed until 20 years afterwards. Stuff about Wigan Casino is not of much interest to me personally, I only went once and thought it was shite.

After 4 years of effort, why would it stop you just because someone else beat you to the punch. Surely you must have been trying to reach your goal too long to give up on your journey now. You know 7 days , 52 weeks, 1 year, is a long time and Times a waisting, so keep on keeping on or time will pass you bye and even though you think it will never be over for you, time marches on. Ed

This production could help promote a shrinking scene that seems to be overpopulated by grumpy old men. Lets see what this production has to offer, it may not be historically correct just like "once upon a time" but it could be fun. perhaps they will include carla thomas as it was never played at wigan!
Guest Trevski Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 (edited) I saw the original, which was excellent. This bootleg looks a complete rip-off! If you don't endorse it Paul, then that's good enough for me, I shan't be going! Edited March 6, 2008 by Trevski
