Guest Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Just been reading in events about the forthcoming weekender titled THE WIGAN CASINO ROADSHOW, i`m sure they used to do these in the late seventies/early eighties, think they did a nighter in carlisle ny body got any info on these I am a bit hazy on the exact details of a WC Roadshow , seem to recall RW was the man behind it , and featured several of the DJs from the all - nighter ...... The travelling circus that was The Northern Soul Roadshow , run by Tony Petherbridge in the 70s , was the predecessor of the WC one , and pioneered the taking of men with porn star moustaches on the road playing soul records ...... okehgaz Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Think they did about three. All in the market hall at Carlisle. Bit like an aircraft hanger except, because of the glass roof, it got light about four o'clock in the morning. Rumour at the time was that they did them because a series of local nighhters at the Cosmo were begining to take off and they didn't like competition! Surely not.
Harry Crosby Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Thought they did one at loughborough as well maybe wrong though
Steve G Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Thought they did one at loughborough as well maybe wrong though Also didn't they go to Cleethorpes one time?

Guest Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 They did indeed At the winter gardens, same night the pier was on, think there was only half a dozen souls turned up for it. They never did it again in Cleggy Colin Curtis was one of the DJs on that ill fated night at The WG ....... At the first Cleethorpes Phase II event on the Pier last year , I asked Colin how his journey had been , and he informed me that it was the first time he had stepped foot in Cleethorpes since that night , and added " nothing's changed much , has it ? ....... Steve G Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Colin Curtis was one of the DJs on that ill fated night at The WG ....... Now that does surprise me, wouldn't Colin have been part of the Mecca set up at the time? Surprised Winstanley would have booked him then based on the bravado that was going on back then....

I do not think there was a problem with him working for Dustbin Stanley , as Colin , as he does now , would have wanted to play music , and the only animosity and conflict at the time was between DS and IL ...... I cannot recall as to who the other DJs were at that WG tables and chairs exhibition that night , but they produced a patch to " celebrate " the night .......
