Guest Revilot1957 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I got some tapes from a bloke in Hull, back in the mid / late '80s ... Rod Dearlove ??? Cassettes, before the CD was in use. Stafford stuff, Shrine issues when they first made it big etc ... And some of the un-issued Motown stuff etc. etc. Mostly great stuff and a few shite. Ray pollard-This time and Johnny Summers - I'm still yours are memorable for me ... Married with young kids at the time, no dosh to go to gigs. And stuck up in the soul-less frozen wastes of the North East. These cassettes were a breath of fresh air, to top-up my (at the time) large collection of vinyl, amassed during the '70s. One track stood out head & shoulders for me ... As the ultimate "Just discovered in a dusty cellar" track Covered up ??? A supposedly un-issued girlie motown track. "Any girl in love" Does anybody know the score on that one ??? I need to hear it again Thanks in advance.
Simon T Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Now on Kim Weston double CD. ROD https://www.juno.co.uk/products/193176-01.htm Worth buying just for "You Wonderful Sweet Sweet Love"
Chalky Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Think the first time this saw the light of day on any kinda release apart form tapes etc was the LP Rob and Chris Marriott did back in the 80's.
Guest MOLLY Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 "Any girl in love" (knows what I'm going through) was written by Holland-Dozier-Holland for the Supremes. As far as I'm aware was an album only track, and is on The Supremes album I hear a symphony released in 1966. You can get it on American and British releases. Also came out on Diana Ross & The Supremes "Baby Love" compilation on Music for pleasure in Britain. Really nice track too. Hope this helps. Best Molly

Didn't know unissued version by Kim Weston existed, would like to hear that Best Molly Kim Weston's version apeared on that great marginal Cd "The Story Of Kim Weston" but they credited it as "Any Girl In Town" steve
Steve Edgar Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 better version by far IMHO. check your PM's. agree there Chalky! steve
Guest Revilot1957 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 better version by far IMHO. check your PM's. Hope you don't think I'm being cheeky, BUT .......... PM please I got that track within 30 seconds (the wonders of the internet). Posted a link to it, which was deleted, fair enough ........ I don't know what I love about this song ??? The chorus is just amazingly hypnotic !!! I do not think it's the same one off the cassette I had .... Mind battered off years of beer & drug abuse !!!! Is there a Supremes version ????????? I remember a higher-pithched lead vocal than Kim Weston. Or was I just concentrating on the road too much to listen properly ???
Guest Revilot1957 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 better version by far IMHO. check your PM's. Thanks for that .......... And for proving it wasn't just drink and drugs !!! The second track was the one I had on cassette. The tape was snapped about 18 years ago ... I thought I was going deaf yesterday, when hearing the other version. Now I'm just confused ... I like the first one I heard from links on here. But the second one brings back memories. My missus says the first one's shite, but she's a soul-less bint anyway
