Soulsmith Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Went to see the 'This Is Soul' revue last night in Camberly. Eddie Floyd, Pauline Black & Geno Washington Packed venue & some great performances, but slightly odd in places. But on the whole great night out, not sure where its off to next?
Supercorsa Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Pauline Black? Since when has she sung soul? Is she no longer singer with The Selecter then?
Guest FrostyJak Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Asked about this a while back ! They are back in the midlands next month CANNOCK Was it good or not ??? Its gotta be worth seeing for EF if nothing else
Guest Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Pauline Black? Since when has she sung soul? Is she no longer singer with The Selecter then? She is obviously a singer who has always been involved with Ska bands. But your comment "when has she sung soul" leaves me bewildered !

Its gotta be worth seeing for EF if nothing else It is also well worth the admission price for Geno Washington ...... As to / for Pauline Black , she must - besides her obvious connections - have earned her inclusion through merit , to be on the bill alongside EF & GW ........ Malc Burton
Guest Jahbuzzz Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 The lady sings Soul, Jazz, Reggae and Ska. I don't think she'd be too far out of place anywhere. I met her once too and she seems like a lovely girl. https://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=94653203
Soulsmith Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Eddie Floyd was excellent, but was first on the bill which to most people on here would seem strange, but I guess we don't live in the real world? Pauline Black has an amazing voice, (more jazzy than soulful IMO). Much of the material chosen didn't suit her voice. Geno Washington is entertainment! If you can catch the tour somewhere, I'd recommend it.
Soulsmith Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 And If it was not for the 2 tone thing in the 70s there would not be half of the Mods n Scooterists that are involved with the Soul Scene today! So it would have been quality not quantity BTW Cheers for posting the clip. Hadn't heard this before.
Guest mel brat Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Saw a similar "This Is Soul" tour in the 1990s but featuring Eddie Floyd, Dorothy Moore and Ben E. King !
Ady Croasdell Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 How many peeps attended the dos so far please?
Jules Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Saw a similar "This Is Soul" tour in the 1990s but featuring Eddie Floyd, Dorothy Moore and Ben E. King ! I saw that tour at the birmingham town hall, was ok/good
Guest ScooterNik Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Pauline Black? Since when has she sung soul? Is she no longer singer with The Selecter then? AFAIK the last line up of The Selecter called it a day towards the end of last year. TBH they never appealed to me in the later years when they tried their hand at the more reggae end of things, but I'd argue Too Much Pressure was a better ska album than The Specials any day, The Specials sounding more punk but The Selecter sounded more ska. IMHO obviously BTW By the end The Selecter must have had more members than the average soul band

If I remember right it was less than 20
Guest Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I remember going to watch Eddie Floyd at Stafford in the 80s but he didnt perform because enough people didnt turn up. If I remember right it was less than 20 And Eddie asked "Raise Your Hand" so the Promotor could do a tally up
Guest mel brat Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I saw that tour at the birmingham town hall, was ok/good Yup! That's where I saw it too.
