Russoul1 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 hi all, recieved an original copy of "the sharpets - lost in a world of a dream" today cleaned it put it on the deck and then WOW what a sound and quality, after owning a copy of the bootleg from the late 70s uptil i got rid a few years ago the quality of sound from the original to that boot was amazing!! the louder i played it the better it sounded with no lose of fidelity. so have you owned/own a bootleg/counterfiet that you have replaced with the original copy and saw a total difference in the quality? any examples? oh yer another one i remember was that billy arnell-tough girl boot bloody awefull sound quality!! regards russ

Just couldn't believe it when someone paid £12 for mine on Ebay a couple of years back ! One that i had a similar experience as you with was 'Ron Holden - I'll Forgive & Forget' . Had the gold & red boot/reissue & sound quality never struck me as being bad, but when played the original it really was 10 x better !!
De-to Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 take me home, donna king mid 70s lookalike hotline bootlegs are awful,
De-to Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 there was a thread on here a while ago about original 45 records with bad quality sound the two that seemed to be worst were, hit and run, rose battiste and you want to change me,bobby hebb, usa copys of this tune only,uk ones are ok ???

Guest Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 not quite mate, i have a original green copy gemini ,the sound quality is aweful the louder play it the worse it sounds Well maybe you have a bad copy, all the dark blue boots play about a third of the volume as the green originals!
Guest Leigh J Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Two crap pressings i used to have were Salvadors & Mel Britt
Sunnysoul Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) The UK Jay Boy release of the Fi Dels "Try A Little Harder" plays much louder and clearer than the original US release on Keymen !!!!!!!!!! Edited February 17, 2008 by sunnysoul 1
Barry Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 A truly amazing sounding production, if you have the original Valise release, is Frank Dell's - 'He Broke Your Game Wide Open' - possibly one of the finest, loudest, crisp sounding cuts I've heard on a 7". 1
Guest mel brat Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) The majority of bootlegs sounded lousy didn't they? Rita Dacosta on UK Contempo was also dubbed from vinyl however. The original sounds fabulous by comparison! Edited February 17, 2008 by mel brat
Guest Andy Kempster Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 not quite mate, i have a original green copy gemini ,the sound quality is aweful the louder play it the worse it sounds i'm with you on that russ, my green original sounds rubbish, you have to really crank it up shame considering its an awesome record, one of my faves
Shsdave Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 i'm with you on that russ, my green original sounds rubbish, you have to really crank it up shame considering its an awesome record, one of my faves At least i'm not alone, had the dark green/blue(?) boot since early/mid 70s finally got around to buying an original & although it's much better than the boot it's very quiet, I always look out for someone looking towards the decks when I play it out in case they think "oh yeah he's playing a bloody boot" !!!!!
Quinvy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The original of Bobby Garrett - I Can't Get Away - Mirwood is bloody crap sound quality. Annoyed me so much I had to get rid of it. I had the same problem with To Much, which should of course be TOO MUCH anyway.
Pauldonnelly Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The UK Jay Boy release of the Fi Dels "Try A Little Harder" plays much louder and clearer than the original US release on Keymen !!!!!!!!!! My keymen recording is possibly the loudest vinyl piece I have..and I have, great Torch record. 2

Well that's strange, my green issue plays loud and clear, not quiet at all. So much different from the dark blue boot!
Soulstu Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Some of my red & black styrene Atlantics are rubbish!.... Barbara Lewis, TSU Toronadoes, Barbara Lynn, they're quiet, distorted, poor definition - and these are records that haven't been hammered. Anybody got any good styrene Atlantics?
Dave Pinch Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 The UK Jay Boy release of the Fi Dels "Try A Little Harder" plays much louder and clearer than the original US release on Keymen !!!!!!!!!! my fidels on keymen was booming....it could have been pressed on keymen like the fury`s..... no `H` in deadwax

Dobber Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 the sound quality on the orig billy arnell is shite too, have to crank the volume up! so the boot may even be better? 1
Popular Post Quinvy Posted December 27, 2014 Popular Post Posted December 27, 2014 Being as though someone has resurrected this old thread I will add to it and state that, over the years I have purchased several boots/re issues of very rare records, so that I could record them for home use. Every one of them has been terrible sound quality, and I couldn't stand to listen to them. Not just vinyl either. After getting back into northern through the Cd's that were available late nineties. After listening to them for a couple of years and then getting some of the original vinyl. The difference was amazing, and not just in sound quality, but also the pitch. Just shows that a lot of those early Cd's must have been dubbed from vinyl or even tapes, and some probably off boots. 4

Only Dreaming Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Some of my red & black styrene Atlantics are rubbish!.... Barbara Lewis, TSU Toronadoes, Barbara Lynn, they're quiet, distorted, poor definition - and these are records that haven't been hammered. Anybody got any good styrene Atlantics? I had a few dodgy Atlantic (US) styrene issues, Barbara Lewis "fool, fool, fool" which had distortion (cue burn) for the first 10 seconds and "still remember the feeling" which played with distortion all the way through. I replaced both with vinyl copies but SRTF doesn't play great, maybe a general pressing, mastering fault? Have to say that most of my Atlantic 45's are vinyl. I've also got a mint condition vinyl Tyrone Davis "please consider me" that plays with distortion throughout. Dave
Popular Post kevinsoulman Posted December 28, 2014 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2014 when the boots came out back in the day we or most i should say did not give a stuff about sound quality , just to have that record at home to play was awsome, and now we are all the worst critics with our up to date top of the range sound systems. imho of course kev 4
