Guest Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 What about Al Martino 'Charmer' on Capitol? Got to be up there BH I can recall that AM was one of the many artists that were " involved " in releasing disco slanted tracks , in the 70s , but I cannot recall what " Charmer " sounded like ...... I sadly remember Johnny Mathis and his contribution to disco , with the dire " Gone Gone Gone " ........ Malc Burton
Guest Simon Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 I sadly remember Johnny Mathis and his contribution to disco , with the dire " Gone Gone Gone " ........ Malc Burton That is one of my fave Disco records, superb imho! Simon

SteveM Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Yes, John played this at Samanthas. Kev Been mentioned on here before. JV did play it at Smanthas, but no more than twice if I remember correctly.. ( Once as the first record) And he didn't cover it there. He did laugh when he played it however. Early 76 as has been said.

It was his reworking for the " now generation " of " Volare " ....... Malc Burton Ahem Mr Burton Sir, pedants corner time. You mean "Nel blu dipinto de blu" Volare is not the actual title of the song. I will try to get out more though.

I will try to get out more though. My computer desk is in the corner , so I guess I was already there , my dear Mr M ....... All I can say is when AM did the reworking of " NB , DDB " , he must have needed the money ...... Or a part in an Hollywood blockbuster - as Johnny Fontaine ....... Malc Burton
Guest CliftonHall1 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Sorry Steve, my recollection was he played it fairly regulary....along with Baja Marimba Band and Life "Cats Eyes".....the junk shops of south yorks must have been well fettled for this quality offering....

( Once as the first record) And he didn't cover it there. He did laugh when he played it however. Early 76 as has been said. I remember it being played reguarly at Samanthas, St.Ives, and Kettering all-nighters through 75/76, though I don't know if it was a John Vincent only play, unlikely, since as awful as it is, I recall it being quite popular at the time , along with Walt Murphy's 5th of Beethoven . He played Cats Eyes covered as the Soul Agents "Grooving Alan. But that was before DS ( 1975 ?)and Baja Marimba was 77 ish surely ? I'm sure he would have played it at St Ives as he had some weird stuff on the decks down there
Wrongcrowd Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Surely you mean " California Strut " ........ Malc Burton Yep, you're right, I've obviously never gotten over it
SteveM Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Yep, you're right, I've obviously never gotten over it What was that "jaws" thing he played ?
Wrongcrowd Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 What was that "jaws" thing he played ? Lalo Schifrin, though I actually quite liked that

Steve G Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 You MUST be bloody joking As "Be nice to Russ" week is now over, I can agree - it's certainly as bad as anything Russ played. Must admit didn't realise that Mr V was behind Cat Eyes either - always chalked that one "down" to Russ.
SteveM Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Lalo Schifrin, though I actually quite liked that Couldn't remember the name
