Does anyone know if Gene Chandler 'I can take care of myself' was ever reissued as a look-a-like Demo on constellation?

i think it was booted as a blue constellation demo with a 4x bunkys pick type thing

on it. original demo is white

dave

Yeah, second that - Blue with Bunky's pick and a "Star" I think. Had one when I was at school (all I could afford in those days!)

Thanks for that.

I haven't looked at my old records in about 20 years. I've just started to get back into Northern and It's hard to remember which records were copies and which weren't. The Record I have does have a white label with 'bunky's pick' on it. How much would it be worth now?

Is there an obvious way of telling a look-a-like as I have loads more stuff that I cant remember if it's the real thing or not.

Buy Manships bootleg guide if you haven't already got it.

must be worth £40+ on a white demo. have seen the issue sell for that a couple of times recently

dealer price of course. could well be cheaper on ebay :shades:

Some nice person took my copy and one or two other things from my box, when I turned my back to put a record on the decks many years ago sad.gif

Thinking back to those smoky long nights on a NS dance floor, this is a peach of a record that I would describe as perfect Northern Soul. Love it to bits :D:D

Sure we had a discussion on this years back, the boot demo has the labels reversed, the labels have a rough paper feel to them as opposed to the smooth originals, and the runout has "Best 1025" scratched in.

So just to clarify lads: If it's blue then it's DEFINATELY a bootleg?

The thing is, I've got a "white Demo" on Constellation, with what looks like an ARP stamp on it (definately STAMPED with some letters, though it's that small it's nearly illedgible). BUT it's also got 1025 scratched in the runout.

Manships guide just says about the blue bootlegs. It says ORIGINALS "can be styrene or vinyl and have the star or straight Constellation logo"

Confused

Got my WC white DJ copy in front of me, which i'm pretty sure is original & was bought from a reputable seller, it has the arp stamp & just 1025 scratched in

The Bunky's Pick, star & X is on the 'I Can't Save It Side'. Think that's what they mean about lables being reversed, on the boot it's on the 'I Can Take Care Of Myself' side i think ? Hope that helps

All time classic though eh ?

Brian Rae that re activated it at the Casino wasn't it ?

Or this sytrene East Coast issue, are there white EC Demos?.

Love the one with the stars, so much nicer

What's in the deadwax on that one, Tony?

:D

Hi Dave, got mixed up with my East & West.

Your old Monarch disc stamp and the numbers are 1026 delta triangle 62457 and -X on the B-side after the numbers, sounds nice for styrene.

Top tuneage both sides :D

So, what's it worth on a UK copy?

Whats the sound quality like, Styrene gives the record a nice cold echo in the back ground.

That Bloody CD, I will do it tonight then you will see (or hear) what I am on about.

Aha! Even from Tokyo I thought it looked like a styrene/West Coast copy! :D

Very good...cleaner and crisper than on an original Constellation WD...both sides. The vocals, brass and percussion are all crystal clear, whereas they seem a tad muddy on the USA WD copies. The sax break on ICSI is especially spine-tingling...and yes I found this copy the other week in Tokyo! Value?

UK action £50ish.

A little bit more for a demo.
