Anyone know about this film...nice trailer, great tune (the only Majestics' one I have, on a Gold Mine Soul Supply CD)?

The very end suggests a 12th. June release (or is it 6th. December?) - but which date and year?

Maybe December just gone...

https://www.modculture.info/2007/12/mod-movie-young.html

Looks like the release said december '06.

looks a bit iffy to me. Amaturish, plastic moddy.

I have been watching this one for a while, it was screened last year in the states and the producer is hoping to have it released this summer. I know he has a my space blog thingy, and I am sure I read just recently that he was thinking of changing the music on there to appeal to the younger viewer with a sort of up to date soundtrack, I hope he doesnt do it though, I think that would spoil it.

Typical shat that the ice berg tippers see when they take a small peek at one the British youth cultures making a complete bollox of it all and not really seeing or understanding the complexities of some thing near and dear to a lot of people!

I hate the fact that some fookin sophistoe can stumble down the stairs of the 100 club then either cash in or become a spokesman expert missing the point and making genuine people look like pantomime figures.

Imberboy gives this a "D" for fookin Divvy!! The real Mods on here must cringe when this happens and the plastics should hang their heads in shame!

if wanna use it as a signature then post it there

as long as signatures are not higher than avitar and not over the top then shouldn't be a problem

Really not sure how you can make such judgmental comments on the back of a 3 minute trailer - I assume you haven't actually watched the whole film, other than the 3 minute trailer?? In case you've not bothered to read the review, it's not about the British mod/scooter or soul scenes, it's a drama about the mod scene in the U.S. (which has been thriving since the 80s), not a documentary. I suspect you've never been on the U.S,. mod scene either. I also haven't seen anything other than the trailer so can't comment on whether it's a decent representation or not, but given I've never been on the U.S. mod scene, I'm not sure I could comment. Barry Norman you are not, so cut the barbed comments when you haven't even watched it. Some people on this site are so quick to knock anything that has a subject matter remotely interesting to most of us, when we really should be grateful when projects like this do appear, given the scarcity of films with any relevant subject matter to the soul or mod/scooter scenes. Get a grip. And if you do watch it and come back on moaning how factually incorrect it is, buy some filming equipment and get off your ass and see if you can do any better. People are far too quick to knock things down.

I don't know Chris, I'd not even heard of it before this thread, so I'm as much in the dark as you. Hopefully someone knows something as I'd certainly buy it (ex mod and all that). Looking at the Myspace link <HERE>from the review, the chap who made it seems to be suggesting he's trying to get the DVD out (in the U.S at least) by summer 2008, so it appears we'll have to wait a few months.

Cheers,

I've seen the Mod scene in LA when I've been there, of course Nancy Yahiro very

much the Queen of the Mods (although think she's now in Italy). They're very, very

much int retro sixties wear and their musical tastes on the rare soul side. They all

seemed very naive when I spoke to them, mixing up the Merseybeat, Mods, Northern

Soul, the Who, etc, guess they've made it in their mould, seems to suit them (no pun

intended). Nice people though, in a place where being over 30 is akin to being ready

for burial they seeme in awe of anyone who'd gone to an old all-nighter.

Thanks for the comments, folks - glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know aught about it (not that I know much more now):lol:

If anyone gets to hear of a U.K. release date (DVD) for this, I trust they'll post in this forum...

Rich I have had the film for three months now, it is shat! How do I know this you may ask? I lived in Pasadena for seven years and spent a lot of time in LA working as a film critic winning the, modest, but acclaimed platinum vase, a trophy presented to the most promising film critic of the year. Not an international accolade but massive in Pasadena and LA.

During my time in the states I was approached by Kolton Lee who wanted me to show a young group of actors how to ride scooters for a film called American Mod released in 2002. I spent 18 months in New York on the film set doing the same job I did for Franc Roddam in 1979 for Quadrophenia where I gave technical advise and embaressingly did a bit part as a Rocker (see photo below)

CUERDEN.jpg

your last comment about getting of your butt and making a film, well did you ever see "Blue water white death"? I shot most of this on hand held 8mm with Rod and Val Taylor.

Thought I'd add this to authenticate my previous post.

Seriously, There Is a decent review on Modculture.com and some info on the film and its possible release etc.

I am assuming you are being ironic here Trev, the response had as much substance and thought behind it as first one, only slightly less truth! Please don't be second * one to let him think he is funny as he will just repeat his sub Des O'Connor witticisms for any audience.

Rich mate, know Wales lucky win at weekend (ouch not even I could say that out loud without ducking could I) is probably making you too happy to care about such trivia but your original post was spot on. We had the debate about this when talking about films before, why people on here expect a fictional film to be 32 hours long and all shot at Wigan Casino is unbelievable! Its f****ng fiction and art.

I wonder if the American Gangster** is poring over the film recently out to make sure each kill and drug scene is exactly as it was back in the day, or is he just grateful that he is being made immortal in cinemascope!!

I know I shouldn't rise but there are just some posters on here whose grasp on reality and fact makes Neil Hamilton*** believable.

Off to the methadone cupboard!

* I am assuming that some family member has misplaced their duty by humouring him and telling him he has funny, unleashing another unwelcome bad comedian on the world.

** Dan if you are out there, bought the two related books you recommended on this, not read them yet but they look great,

*** Stuart/Dan feel free to substitute more relevant lying politician here as you seem to know a lot more than I do!

Your mate Jocko was quick to jump to your aid, not sure you needed it but an honorable thing to do any way. :P

Don't ever take anything I write on here as red coz I am a bit of a "divvy" me sen and make most stuff up, a bit like the record collectors and dealers on here.

As far as criticizing the film from a three minute clip, well what can I say? Shouldn't do it, but I do and that's how it works rightly or wrongly.

Jocko I know you are in my garden watching me, I have seen the Rhododendron's moving and two bottles of milk have disappeared. And as far as one of my family members thinking I was funny well it was your mum who I used to make giggle.

Nah, my good mate Mossy's told me you're a bit of a wind up merchant :( Whereas you were doing it in jest, think I "bit" as there are quite a few on this site that knock things willy nilly when they're works of fiction and not meant to be northern soul documentaries and similar when mainstream radio stations put on a soul/black music related show e.g Craig Charles on BBC Radio, which are not aimed per se at the northern crowd. I think most of us who've ever been on the mod/scotter scenes still have a soft spot for Quadrophenia, but that wasn't exactly accurate, especially in relation to the music on the soundtrack, but it's still a great watch. Let's have a proper review when this thing does come out!

Rich

p.s if Mossy has got dodgy pics of you, I've got tons of him in various states of catatonia!!!

Posted

Rich spot on about Quadrophenia, I think it's about time I watched it again deffo my fave film of all time.

I think Quadrophenia is the yard stick in which to measure all other films that are genre based. The production was superb, the music score outstanding and we where lucky to see a group of extremely talented young actors and actresses breaking into film, the best of British springs to mind.

And before Jocko ruins my Rhododendron's again, the three minutes presented for the Young Birds trailer doesn't bode particularly well? I may be wrong but the acting hasn't fired any of my rockets, I'll make a deal with you. If any Oscars are won for this film I will personally take you to Oscar night.

Here are the updates:

I just recently had a distributer interested in releasing the film but I have to take care of some of the legal paper work which I'm working on at the moment. The original 60's songs that I picked are Very expensive, I knew that from the start with the hope that somebody would pick up the costs, but we are talking at least $250,000 per song and I have at least 25 songs from the era. Obscure Northern songs or not, they are still very expensive. Since I'm a first time feature film director and I produced the film myself people are not going to put out that kind of money for the movie. But I do have many contacts in the recording collecting field as I've been a 45rpm collector for years and some record label owners are going to allow me to use some of their 6t's songs from there catalog very much free of charge. Not the songs I wanted but I'm glad I was offered them.

I never expected it to win a any kind Hollywood reward, it was really an experiment if I could pull off a feature film about something I've been involved with for many years. It's my first film and it has it's issues with production and direction but on the whole I'm quite proud of it and I learned many things about producing films because of it.

I just started working on the treatment for my next film which will also be about Skin/Mod/Northern Soul that I plan to shoot next year.

 I know I'm gonna get flack from our USA bretheren, but to me Mod is a UK thing. Like nothern, it was born out of a particularly UK mindset and circumstance. The Europeans seem to get it, but the Americans don't, IMHO, just as they don't get Skinhead, either. To me it's just as bad as Uk saddo's dressing up as cowboys at C&W events. It's a cultural thing that doesn't travel well!

Uplandmod behave yer sen and come clean, this whole thing stinks!

Is this just a Youtube special?

I can't belief that you have used so many Northernsoul tracks without first getting permission or funding to pay for them!

For your next film may I suggest you use some of the Trojan back catalogue, don't ask permission and see how The Yardies take it.

Then get a load of shaven headed tough guys to pose and pull faces whilst some sexy Japanese bird spins around in her kitchen watched by some big nosed slapper with her mums cloths on.

I'll write the script for you.
