Northern Soul Uk Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 i know I should know this and I am sure that i used to have it, but for the life of me i can't remember the title or artist. It's a fast funky track and the first lyrics in the song are 'There was a time, when i used to dance, there was a time when I used to prance' Later on in the song are the lyrics, 'I may not do the dance as well as you, but you can bet your bottom doller, I will scream and holler, and do the best that I can do' Than it goes into a massive funky guitar and sax riff. Please help. Ta!

Peter99 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 and twat gene chandler on youtube in the 80s A geezer I know - a drummer, used to play drums for Gene Chandler. He said he was a twat! A tight twat too. One morning on tour in the hotel restaurant he turned to the waiter and said "Give the boy biscuits for his breakfast" referring to the geezer I know.
De-to Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 also found a version of twat by jerry o on youtube not quite sure about this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwblgfZNDA0

I thought you were calling Cene Chandler a twat - you were simply using an anacronym. How ironic - he is a twat my mate said so. And he was rude to Harry - so he's a fooking twat!

boba Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 also found a version of twat by jerry o on youtube not quite sure about this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwblgfZNDA0 haha, fan-made videos to songs are always funny but that is the most over the top one I have ever seen. The best is the transition he keeps using where the screen rolls up into a ball then splits in half and moves away.

Garethx Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 There's also a good James Brown produced stab at There Was A Time by the Dee Felice Trio, where they take a Ramsey Lewis style approach to the song. Beware that there are two versions on Bethlehem 45s: one with horns and one without.

Even had to explain to the Mrs and the kids why I was in stitches! Personally, I've always found Mr Chandler to be the perfect Gentleman.

Steve G Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) Personally, I've always found Mr Chandler to be the perfect Gentleman. Yes absolutely agree Sean. When I interviewed him on radio he was fine, just didn't want to talk about the mid 70s. I think with a lot of these guys we idolise there is probably a dark side lurking there somewhere. PS Fantastic instrumental version of "There was a time" by The Dapps on King.......£15-20 and well worth it. Edited February 3, 2008 by Steve G
