It's our memories of the early days you're desecrating by calling it "Youth Club Northern". Hate the term, and ain't no such thing in my book youngster. -Kev.

Sharon Cooper Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Boogaloo Party Breakout The next in line I spy for the fbi Love on a mountain top About the only response on this thread that resembles a Youth Club list that I would recognise, most of the rest were being played at nighters and never heard them in the clubs I went too, but then again i went to Y/Clubs in the late 60ts early 70ts I guess some of the others mentioned on other replies had done the nighter scene, Wheel, Torch, early Wigan and moved down the line to the Y/clubs of the mid to late 70ts. Guest Matt Male Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Either we all went to the same youth clubs or for some unknown reason youth clubs all over the country played the same ten records, i'm talking around '78 now. At Alderman Smith School youth club Nuneaton the big sounds were... If you loved me Ten miles high On a magic carpet ride Coloured man Lady lady lady Nine times out of ten The Champion Interplay Cochise What Don Thomas sounds a bit too classy for a youth club, unless it was a posh school? Dug Tim Tam and the Turn Ons out and played it, not too bad.... wonder how it would go down these days?

Surprisingly, we had put a lot of thought into that set - sounds from people's youth who were about 73-76'ish. Tunes that we get asked for during a 'normal' set and (honestly) haven't got in the box but decided to play them in one set. To be fair Kev - the occassions when we did do the YC set were Christmas and the 'party' night at Northants. It did fill the floor, it was a bit of fun and it's all done with a cheeky grin. Plus, we can't all be as old as you, Kev I didn't have a youth....I was too busy working in a record shop in Chatham and putting up with grumpy squaddies ....I'll get me coat Jo

Pete S Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 remember seeing the big lads doing this amazing dancing and thinking WOW!! this is something special Thats exactly the same as me - they bought their own records in (Tainted Love was one, Wombat was another) and the whole room stopped and watched them. Took me about 2 months to practice and pluck up the courage to do it myself.
