Guest Andy BB Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Problem with your homonyms BIGSOULMAN. You used the word 'YOUR' which is the possessive of the pronoun 'YOU' What you should have used is "YOU'RE" which is a contraction of the phrase YOU ARE. A very common mistake but one which is less forgivable when it occurs in a post where the originator is complaining about other people's use of English. You know what I hate, ex teachers who come over all snotty whenever given the opportunity to correct people. That said every time I pick someone up I'm p*ssed so always end up full of mistakes too. Think that's one for my hate list. That and people who correct other people's English

vnicepce Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 the banning of viewpoints/topics/persons?-does this not show deeply-held intolerance, on the part of those who desire that someone be banned?..or , at least, that they take things a little TOO seriously....anyway, how could you ban the Topics-they did some good songs!!!
Soulsmith Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 "the banning of viewpoints/topics/persons?-does this not show deeply-held intolerance" No, its just funny. Like banning people with under 10 posts.

Guest Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 If all bad spellers will be banned I fear it will become very few left on here! I have noticed that few seem to spell definitely properly, you always see definately, definatly defineatly, defanitly, etc. There are a few other 'key words' that few seem to get right, but this is one that I have noticed to be misspelled particularly often. I do agree that people who for some odd reason constantly have their caps lock key on be banned though, ban them now!

Guest Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I couldn't agree more, too many clowns hiding behind stupid false names, some won't even put their name forward when confronted, very bad IMO.
Guest Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 (edited) If i was Mike, i'd ban Christian..............because he definitely hasn't done me a tape/Cd yet.....after nearly one year. Plus the fellow spells his name all in lower case....oh dear.... Edited March 26, 2005 by Brett
Simsy Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I know people read a thread and feel compelled to add their take on it quite quickly and the inbuilt spell checker here maybe a little touch and go if you are not a pc whizz. What could be an idea if you are replying to a post, or starting a new topic, is to write and spell check it in Word or sim (first) at your leisure. Then cut and paste it to the forum.

Guest ShaneH Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 To me this thread began very tongue in cheek like many of Godz posts. It now looks like it has got out of control with many taking it very serious. Personally I would ban all members who lets things get out of control and take it too serious. Shane
Guest Dan Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Why ban anyone? I quite like it when people start getting a bit steamed up. Without a bit of argy-bargy and a few strongly-held opinions it would become a PC-riddled Stepford Wives-type site Let's have more abuse, not less Dan

Seriously though if you don't don't attach some seriousness to your spelling and continually post with howlers all over the place, the net result is, you end up looking a bit of a dick.
Guest Dan Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Actually having said I'd ban no-one I would ban Kev Bexter Roberts on grounds of ongoing smugness and self-promotion. Guest Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I'm all for having a battle "Royale" (Christian I've spelt Royal in the Northern Sheffield dialect) involving all warring factions, suggest we use a venue that is "Best" attended, then proceed to cut each other into ribbons, a bit like those early 70's Women's Guild meetings that I seem to remember from reading crap magazines in the Doctors surgery. Choice of weapons would need to be decided on, but as usual I will be choosing my trusty "Australian Dog Whip" the one armed with 8 power points. The Scottish members may need to be divided early on as they will probably all kill each other at the home coach station ! Lagerlout would need to be sealed in an iron cage, otherwise he would be to ungodly for us all, Janine would need her tongue stapling to her top lip as that weapon would be the most formidable on show, lastly Pete- S and Bexter would be used as hors doeuvres, just to please all and sundry. Brett
John May Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 EXCELLENT BRETT, MAY I SUGGEST WE ALL START POSTIN' IN CAPITALS AND IN OUR OWN LOCAL DIALECT.......RECKUN' THAT SHOULD CONFUSE A FEW
Soulsmith Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 "Something that winds me up? People not putting their names at the bottom of posts, just think it's polite to do so." Sorry matey, will do something about it someday soon. Best regards Brian

I would like to think that SS members can look beyond spelling, punctuation and grammar. After all, none of would want to feel responsible for people being scared to post, for fear of being pulled up for their spelling. As Shane said, it was meant to be a light hearted post, hopefully it will stay that way Winnie:-)
