I still have Martha Reeves lipstick on a tissue (not sure where it was anymore, maybe Leicester '83-ish and Chuck Jacksons autograph on my Pink Slip (?) - Morecambe '84, when he did a Tommy Cooper through the curtains). The date at Tiff's - Friday 19th / Saturday 20th of March , was part of the tour that MR undertook in the UK during 1982 , and was the only appearance during that tour , that she did at an all - nighter ....... I cannot recall now the exact address / where it was in Newcastle ( despite our promoting quite a few all - nighters there ) : we only billed it ( and the others we did ) as being at Tiffany's , Newcastle , SOT : possibly there is a Stokie / exiled Stokie out there on SS , who can give these details ...... The DJ line up for the all - nighter was Gary Rushbrooke , Rob Smith , Steve Mannion , Chris King , Bill Payne and myself ..... Interesting to note that RS , SM , CK and yours truly are still DJing : Bill retired from behind the decks many years ago , but as for GR , I have not heard of him for quite some time ....... Me, Cathy and my mates Ann and Jeff Coyle went to the Michelin Social Club in Burnley to watch the "American Drifters". (Don't laught, they were tremendous!) I had a senior position at Michelin, so I managed to get us to chat to one of the guys before the show. We'd had a few, and Jeff was really ranting on about Clyde, Ben E the Brill Building, and I saw that the said Drifter was slowly backing away from us, feeling for his dressing room door. He then shouted at these 2 large skinheads who were pretty much in his face by this time, "They are all dead!" and he ran into the dressing room and locked the door. Jeff turned to me and said the immortal words, "Bloody hell! We shit a Drifter Up". I Told you it was a crap tale, but funny at the time.

Malc Burton Malc I attended this, along with 4 other lads from Bimingham Only trouble was, I drove there in my 1256 -4 door vauxhall Viva which I may add was my first motor, and in them days I tended not to take anything un-toward to keep me awake If memory serves me right Martha was due on stage around 3.00 in the morning Lets just say the others told me she was OK I slept through the whole nighter & missed the show Mind you, slept in the car at Wigan, Rotherham, Bradford, Manchester, loads of places & loads of times used to get there and say to the lads, yeh see in hour lads just havin a kip, and wake up next fookin morning with them banging on the window Happy Days

I spent most of the night arguing with the promoter of the tour - renowned London impressario Henry Sellers - over the fee for her appearance , as the b*****d decided to put up the cost on the night , despite contracts being agreed before ...... He threatened me , if I did not pay , that he would send his " contacts " to break my legs : I bravely stood my ground ( attempting not to pass a solid trump ) , replying " send them - I know bigger lads in Thurnscoe * : you are getting no more f***ing money from us " ....... He got the contracted fee, and I never got that visit ........ I got a nice hotel and first class travel. On the way back from Manchester I was joined in the carriage by Status Quo. I recognised the two obvious geezers, Rossi and the other one, but didnt know any of the others. They were all friendly and as we were getting free wine became quite chatty. One of them sat in the seat next to me was about my age, so naturally I assumed he was a roadie of some decscription. I asked him what he did for the band and he said, "I play Bass", before grumpily getting up and sitting in a different seat.

It was early on & me and my mate Gossy were just on the edge of the dance floor when Ian Levine walked across towards the Decks. In unison we started pouring adulation on Mr levine, "Ian We Love You!", "You're Great" etc etc. He turned round with a big grin on his face that quickly became a scowl & he growled "Oh you're Pete Lawsons mates arn't you", and scuttled off in a huff. Pete S Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 One time the Showstoppers (apparently) played at Wigan Casino, for some reason, me and Gill went backstage to say hello, we both had terrible verbals and after 5 minutes these poor people realised that we weren't going to go away despite them signing autographs and constantly denying that they were the Four Perfections, after about 20 minutes we were asked to leave by representatives of the management, I often wonder what they thought of our perceptive questions such as "how do you get your hair like that"
