Paul-s Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Paul, take another look at part two, check out the foot work from 1.24 min in till 1.46 then again 3.05 to 3.17, that is truly fast and fabulous footwork. About 263 foot to floor contacts per minute. Yes mate...the real deal for sure. Truly unique period for uk dance!

Guest soul diva Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) If anyone has got the Northern Soul Floorshaker's CD - front cover is Pete from Luton, one of the Jazz Crew that use to hang out with Perry. Photo was taken at a Southport weekender if I remember.... Use to go to all the Nicky Holloway's Special Branch Do's, Dingwalls, Mambo Madness's and Gilies Peterson sunday night sessions at the Belevdere in Richmond, it brings back all those memories with the 'Girlie - Girlie' House in Hounslow that I use to share with 5 other girls... Mad days!! Hey D'arcy you mentioned loads of clubs we use to haunt in the 80's - Blimey are we that old.... Edited January 25, 2008 by soul diva

Soulsmith Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Blimey are we that old.... You heard it here first.
Soulsmith Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 And your Do At The Zoo with the Special Branch mob, first time I ever encountered a jazz room and you were playing, must admit lots of it went over my head You are the lucky one. Generally I find a lot of jazz an afront to the senses. I've listened to a few a of the tracks mentioned above and all I can here is........no beat whatsoever. A number of the dancers seem completely out of sync with the music. But apparentlty thats Ok because there is no beat. Give me the Tate Modern any time.

But apparentlty thats Ok because there is no beat. Give me the Tate Modern any time. Thats because, most of the time they are following the lead instruments!...their like the additional horn or piano....playing along to the beat with their feet and bodies.....U.K. dancing at its most incredible level! I guess if your not into Jazz, its hard to hear it and could sound like mess!?

TheBigO Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Now thats shuffling Have always had a soft spot for Jazzy toons but tend to lean towards the more Mod style of Jazz (think Kents excellent Mo Mod Jazz series) and have always loved Jazz dancers since seeing the old films of the 30's of the brothers that really blew me away! The old hoofers in 'The Cotton Club' movie deserve a mention (cause God knows I am younger than them and cant move half as well as they do and they're in their 70's!!) Used to frequent a Jazz club in Minnapolis when I was out there crate digging, just a small backroom event, but man those guys and gals could move. Agree with Paul-S in that I am influenced by all things also, soulful grooves across all genres, so nice to see this getting a mention here.

Thanks for that, im glad a few of you have enjoyed looking at the dancers.. you can,t beat a good soul + jazz scene, they go hand in hand i feel, Even some of the punters used to be in , on both scenes.. AS for NOT dancing to the beat ??? well how wrong can you be. the feet move as fast as the beat... could,nt go any faster. ha, A while ago , one of the jazz dancers did say to me that he thought that the Northern dancers, DONT dance to the beat / funny that, as i agree with him.. and even through i say it myself , im a top northern soul dancer, but dance wth the beat (music) and not just the same old 2 step. ha.

Guest James Trouble Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 (edited) Great clips and some great dancers. Good to see some familiar faces I've not seen for a few years! Youtube is such a good media for sharing and documenting such a unique thing, like the UK jazzdance scene. I wonder if Snowboy will ever get his book finished... This guy 's got some moves though and I'd hazard a guess that he wouldn't need to be wearing a thong to win any of the comedy dance competitions at the northern soul weekenders...
