John - 'Funky 8 Corners' doesn't "sample" anything, we didn't have sampling back then thank God. However it is another (and, I'm pretty sure, earlier - although not by much) version of "Ton Of Dynamite". It's faster and funkier. And not as good....
Codfromderby Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 i was going to say that o thought ton of dynamite used funk 8 as a backing track speeded up, as for value i virtually gave mine away a while ago so that most probably means it worth loads as that is usually what happens,

Paul R Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Don't they both pay homage to Archie bell "Tighten Up"? Paul
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Don't they both pay homage to Archie bell "Tighten Up"? Paul Indeed they do, Paul. "Tighten Up" was an incredibly influential record in so many ways. I would always have it in my Top 20 "Records That Changed The Face Of Soul Music"...

Marc Forrest Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Always use(d) to "mix" it with Frankie Crocker in my sets. Got it a while back quite cheap at 20 USD. Fab tune (Pt1 that is which is the one I prefer). Marc
Steve G Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 (edited) Willie & MM was 3 years earlier and cashed in on the "Corners" dance craze that was going down (loads of records on that theme); Crocker was a NY DJ that - before he was jailed for payola (taking money for playing records) - just used it as a B side to his "Confessions of love" non hit ion Turbo n the 70s. Willie & MM sold by the bucket load Edited January 23, 2008 by Steve G
Marc Forrest Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Oh, and by the way: Just found a cheap copy of an Album by him and the Disco Symphony Orchestra..no good .
