Guest moggy Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Now I cannot think of that many But the one that sticks in my mind is Harold Melvin : Get Out You hear the intro "Just Picked Up The Telephone" You get on the dance floor and sort of sway around a bit until eventually it kicks in any others where you get on the floor like a good un only to stand around looking a twat for about 20 - 30 seconds till they kick in
Chalky Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Tribulations - You Gave Me Up For Promises - Imperial over a minute the intro/slow start before it kicks in.
Guest Mark Cartwright Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I love 'Get Out' - any record that give's me chance to get a beer before I need to wory about dancing is good by me!!
Peter99 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Probably not the longest - but an intro I like. Can't remember all the words off hand but Blah, blah, blah................ Tonight it feels like we're the only two people in the world Oh, by the way Did you bring your guitar? All I need is moonlight music and you. Laura Greene Still love it!
Dave Moore Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Springfield Rifle - You're All I Need - Burdette/Jerden Almost an instrumental!
Guest Brian Ellis Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Now I cannot think of that many But the one that sticks in my mind is Harold Melvin : Get Out You hear the intro "Just Picked Up The Telephone" You get on the dance floor and sort of sway around a bit until eventually it kicks in any others where you get on the floor like a good un only to stand around looking a twat for about 20 - 30 seconds till they kick in Harold seems to specialise in long intros. Add 'Prayin' to the long intro list . Brian
Harry Crosby Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Steve karmen-breakaway how longs that intro?
Steve Edgar Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 (edited) Cool Sounds "Who Can I Turn To" on WB.... just love that "wait for it wait for it!" bit in tunes like this steve Edited January 22, 2008 by Soul-Integrity
Jason S Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Presidents - Girl You Cheated on Me. Seems to go on forever but worth the wait
Coops Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Presidents - Girl You Cheated on Me. Seems to go on forever but worth the wait charles johnson.... let's face it, most of the vocals are just an intro to C.J. "letting rip" towads the end!..... just saying
Paul McKay Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Geoff played an Invitations track at the last Blue Skies amd I thought to myself this is going on a bit with no vocal. Went and got a beer and still no vocal, he'd put on the instrumental side - DOH! His set was definitely uphill from then though
Sharon Cooper Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Geoff played an Invitations track at the last Blue Skies amd I thought to myself this is going on a bit with no vocal. Went and got a beer and still no vocal, he'd put on the instrumental side - DOH! His set was definitely uphill from then though that was probably 'Look on the good side' ? the vocals intro is just about as long.

Tonight it feels like we're the only two people in the world Oh, by the way Did you bring your guitar? All I need is moonlight music and you. Laura Greene Still love it! How times have changed ...... If the record was done today , it would be " Oh , by the way - did you bring your condoms ? " ......... Malc Burton
Guest Matt Male Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 The live version of Compared To What - Les McCann and Eddie Harris. The intro goes on for ages before the vocal starts up.
Peter99 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 How times have changed ...... If the record was done today , it would be " Oh , by the way - did you bring your condoms ? " ......... Malc Burton Oh for those inoccent bygone days! I was still a little bastard!
Jules Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Mergie Josephs- taking all the love that I can, that goes on a bit before it kicks in, does that ever get spins???? should do
Guest in town Mikey Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 30 years I've been waiting for the vocals to Interplay to kick in. Thats a doozy.
pikeys dog Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 terry callier - I don't wanna see myself staples singers - trippin on your love
45cellar Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 HEATWAVE - Martha & The Vandellas. One of the Longest Intros before the Vocal Kicks In.
Tricky Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 i,m just being myself - dionne warwick - wb looong intro.

kevinsoulman Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 supremes stoned love only some versions had the long intro tho kev
Simon T Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Cynthia and The Imaginations - Love Is Real j I often wonder what they were smoking when they made that record. The song's 3 minutes but the intro is a minute long. Fab record when it gets going, but I bet most people like me stopped playing it after the first 30 seconds of the intro.
Guest TonyCrampton Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Ray Charles-What I'd Say Brilliant!!!
spot Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 How about Dj Genisis - Tribute to Betty, 32 seconds before you hear her voice & what a lovely voice it is to.However the Dimitri of Paris mix only has a very short intro, groovy!! Take care, be safe & wait for the words, Spot.
Guest Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Off topic but does J Tex you better believe it,have the biggest gap in a record that actualy works.
Steve G Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Melba Moore - I got love - stock issue. Demo has an edited version. https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/120011/MOORE%2C+MELBA On Mercury, yes takes a long time to get going..quite nice when it does though
Cunnie Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Too easy this. Longest i know is the remix of What About My Love - Johnny Taylor. Vocals dont kick in until 2 mins 19 seconds. Most early 60s Northern tracks finish in less time than that. No wonder Sam's playing an edited version
Guest ScooterNik Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Not neccesarily the longest intro, but much as I love The MVPs 'Turnin my heartbeat up' I wish it would kick properly sooner! And I've done exactly the same with a copy of The Invitations 'Look On The Goodside'.. intro is so long you stop listening
Guest Stormin Si Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Joe Tex - Under your powerful love you've just got to sway about a bit, tap your feet and do your stretches when this starts until that stompin chorus kicks in
Geoff Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 And I've done exactly the same with a copy of The Invitations 'Look On The Goodside'.. intro is so long you stop listening Yes, I must plead guilty to this faux pas. Guess it was nerves, and I didn't realise till halfway through. Sure I went bright red. Think Nige and Carms played an instrumental of a Rotations track at Maria's do in Thorne on Saturday, not sure if it was deliberate. Good dancer though.
Paul McKay Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Sorry Geoff, didn't mean to embarass you any more than already were, if you see what I mean. Speak later!
Guest markus gora Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Now I cannot think of that many But the one that sticks in my mind is Harold Melvin : Get Out You hear the intro "Just Picked Up The Telephone" You get on the dance floor and sort of sway around a bit until eventually it kicks in any others where you get on the floor like a good un only to stand around looking a twat for about 20 - 30 seconds till they kick in ANOTHER ONE WITH A LONG INTRO IS: VAN TREVOR - A FLING OF THE PAST-ON VIVID
Geoff Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Sorry Geoff, didn't mean to embarass you any more than already were, if you see what I mean. Speak later! Don't worry Paul, I think I'm unembarassable (is there such a word?) after my alcohol intake at Boomerang, lol.
Paul McKay Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Don't worry Paul, I think I'm unembarassable (is there such a word?) after my alcohol intake at Boomerang, lol. Tell us more Geoff!
Bjorn Nilsson Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 spread love Just took the time on this one. Vocal comes in at 2:45!

Guest whensmokeysings Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 The one I remember is the long piano intro to Highways of my life - Isley Bros on the 3+3 album - very nice it is too.
