macca Posted January 24, 2008 Share Posted January 24, 2008 I don't see anything wrong at all with instrumentals. connie clarke my sugar baby used to bring on that unmistakeable buzz at the back of the head. audrey slo on swan was a real floorpacker at the fleet, loughborough, coalville etc. I reckon instrumentals need a major rebranding campaign. admittedly, there was a lot of dross played, especially thru 78, but the wheel, torch & early wigan period ushered in some true scene classics. what I don't understand is this business that it can't be soul if it ain't got a vocal. tell that to the funk brothers or the meters!! I thought it was funny, but Karen gave me a bollocking for admitting my mistake on the mic I don't tend to like instrumentals, but one I keep meaning to throw on early doors is: Movin' On - Larry Brown & Co. My favorites are; Van McCoy - Sweet and easy Earl Wright - Thumb a ride Mike Post - Afternoon on the Rhino, and Bubblegum breakthrough San Remo Strings - All turned on Doni Burdick - Bari track Magic disco machine - Control tower (who were they)? and last but definately not least Luthor Ingram - Exus trek (was he part of the large 'Ingram' family that also produced jazz funk in the 80s?)
