Agent45 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Can someone explain the island sound to me, referring to what some older Jamaican record buyers from New York, Miami, etc seem to be looking for? There are a handful of guys who frequent some of the same spots in Atlanta that I shop but I can't quite pin down what they're looking for.

Agent45 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 6Ts Studio 1 / Coxone stuff? Only a guess! No, it's definitely R&B they're after, and the closest I've come up with is possibly something close to Belgian popcorn, but that's not quite the sound. The guys who are buying it around here are very secretive too, probably for fear or rising prices.

Agent45 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 MANSHIPS SITE HAS A ISLAND SECTION THINK ITS BEAT BALLADS THEY COLLECT TO? Ballads - yes, that seems to be right. Thanks for the pointer to Manship's. I hadn't noticed it was there before I guess.

pikeys dog Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 They have a real hard on for Roy Hamilton 45s...
Guest Russ Smith Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 They have a real hard on for Roy Hamilton 45s... Jamaican collectors do favour the beat ballad style... There were so many versions of american soul records covered by reggae artists. The originals of these are much sought after and often very obscure.
